I just got my T510 with 1 DIMM 4G PC3-10600 DDR3 (In case of extension to 8G in the future), and my score for Memory in the Windows Experience Index is 5.9. My T61 has the same score. There is no improvement. I am wondering the reason for that is T510 is using single channel while T61 has 2 DIMMs RMA which is dual channels.
What's your Memory score in Windows Experience Index if you have 2 DIMMs RAM (I think they will build dual channels in the system).
-
WEI is a terrible predictor of performance. Yes, dual channel will be faster (synchronous or asynchronous) than single channel - most notably if you have integrated graphics. But unless you have specific knowledge of your applications requiring more than 4GB, more memory won't speed up your system since it will not be the bottleneck.
-
Thanks for your reply. My T510 does have an integrated graphics. I just wanna know the performance gap to determine if it's necessary to buy another 4G DIMM from the market now.
-
Performance difference for what though is the question.
-
I've got 2x 2GB, and WEI also reports a 5.9 for my memory score. So there doesn't appear to be any difference. But is RAM bandwidth even going to be a bottleneck anyway with DDR3 and a mid-range mobile CPU?
Also, I have discrete graphics. (unrelated: In spite of this fact, Windows 7 x64 reports only 3GB of usable RAM out of the 4GB installed. Anyone know why? It says 1037MB is 'hardware reserved', but there's nothing I know of to reserve it since the graphics card has its own RAM.) -
I went ahead and ordered a second 4GB module a few weeks later. CPU is 540M, Disk is 500GB 7200rpm FDE.
Here are the results before and after installing the second module:
WEI .............. Before ... After
Processor.......... 6.7 ...... 6.8
Memory............. 6.7 ...... 6.8
Graphics........... 3.7 ...... 4.5
Gaming............. 4.8 ...... 5.3
Hard Disk.......... 5.9 ...... 5.9
So, it is interesting first off that my initial memory score was so much higher than yours. Second, that it didn't increase that much with the additional module. But the good news is that graphics performance improved dramatically. Interesting also that the processor score went up a bit. Maybe statistically insignificant.
What this means in real world performance who knows, but it definitely is some kind of improvement.

Good to know. I decide to buy a 4G DDR3 from ewiz.com
Actually, you can use HWiNFO32 to find current clocks and timing for CPU, GPU, Memory. It must be different between before installing the new 4G RAM and after.

Just received my 4G DDR3 memory. Plug in, now I have 8G RAM on my T510. Got a big improvement similar as pstrisik
WEI .............. Before ... After
Processor.......... 6.9 ...... 6.9
Memory............. 5.9 ...... 6.9
Graphics........... 3.9 ...... 4.5
Gaming............. 4.8 ...... 5.2
Hard Disk.......... 7.6 ...... 7.5
I think it's worthy. Only problem is RAM still running at 533.3MHZ (8500 mode), it never reaches the Max timing clock 666.7Mhz (10600 mode) on my T510. Is there any way I can force it to run at 666.7Mhz?Attached Files:

That's because your CPU only supports up to DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500). Only the quad core i7s support DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600).

My memory score is 5.9 and I have the same setup as pstrisik except I have two 2GB modules.
Your Memory Score in T510?
