a friend wanted to buy a battery for x61 and the price of a compatible battery vs genuine one is almost x5. I suppose there is a reason behind Lenovo pricing, but I would really like to know your experience with compatible batteries.

They are usually chinese nock-offs and tend to only last a year.
Some times they last longer but that seems to be the average I've seen. Because laptops usually only last 2-3 years before people upgrade I recommend them to people. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Yup, 3rd party batteries though coming from the same factories in China usually last half as long, get increased charge wear faster and have terrible customer service. Buy OEM on Ebay from a reputable seller. No need to pay Lenovo's prices.

I use a Ebay supplier in NJ that has a 3 year warranty. His always test fine out of the box, are = to Lenovo. My last batch for my X300 were made from Sony.
and for 6 cells cost me 34.99 per unit. Can't beat that. I use another guy for my x61 but both are US guys. I have tried the hong kong route and although their cheap, as in really cheap they don't last and they don't stand behind them What I mean by that is their version of holding a charge and our version is TOTALY different. Say to us if we charge a 9 cell I would expect with heavy use to get lets say 4 hours out of. Their version would be 30 mins. spend the extra whopping 10 bucks for a US guy.
