"Posting this for informing people planning on buying a z series thinkpad"

I just had a chat with a Lenovo rep about buying a Z61t coz I am a little insisting on the widescreen factor. I asked him about any possibility of a T series 14 ich widescreen in the future. He told me that the Z series would be phased out in the coming months(3-4 months is what he told me) and eventually the Tseries 14 inch widescreen will replace it. Looks like I'll have to get a 15.4 widescreener for now in the T series as I am left with no choice. Can't take chances buying a series that might be outdated in the coming months.

One thing I am not sure of is if the total Z series will be phased out or only the z61t. Any clue??!!!!

I came to the conclusion (rightly or wrongly) that the Z series was being phased out purely on Lenovo model listings in the UK. No new processors or other upgrades in 3 months now.

I can't see why that should stop someone buying one though.

yeah that doesnt mean one should stop buying the z61t. I just told my case that I am not taking any chances buying it. Probably I'll go for a vaio SZ or wait for 3 months(Confusion!!!) to get my hands on a T - WIDE ThinkPad.

Unless they upgrade them the T series laptops don't have Firewire or a multimedia card reader like the Z series. I've yet to understand why they even released a widescreen T60 when they have the Z61m and Z61t already. I don't see any advantage in the T series other than it's a little bit lighter than the Z61m.

I want firewire for audio purposes, ok I could buy a T60 and get a PCMCIA card but that's not ideal..I've not idea how compatible they are and what the throughput is like.

yes, Not all other series have firewire, multi card reader, Integrated Camera, S-Video out.

Unless they have everything in other models, I doubt they will phase out z series. I spoke to Lenovo Rep today and he told that z60 is being phased out and not z61. I ordered my z61t today and hopefully I will get it soon.

    Cheers.....

Lack of a card reader is really a letdown in an otherwise very good laptop.

Perhaps in the US things are still moving but they seem at a standstill in UK (and I presume EU).
