Hello all, I purchased a new Z570 about a week ago and have noticed a clicking sound from the HDD. The clicking is not loud but is noticeable in a quiet room and seems to happen when I'm sitting idle on a web page. Is this normal or a warning of impending HDD failure. System is an i3 with 750 HDD. Thanks.

I just bought the exact same model for a friend yesterday. She's bringing it over tonight for the "unboxing." I'll let you know if the HDD clicks when it's sitting.

In the meantime, can you tell me if Lenovo gives a warranty on these? I have a 12 day warranty from Office Depot, so that's not gonna cover anything other than it being dead in the box. We'll see on that, but is there a warranty she can take advantage of from Lenovo?

I'm sorry to hijack the thread . . . I'll tell you about the clicking as soon as I have a little time with it.

    Mike

Sounds normal to me.... You could try something like HDTune or like program to check for possible problems.

Lenovo offers a standard 1 year limited warranty on it's laptops. You can upgrade/extend the standard warranty at anytime. You can check on the Lenovo support site to see what warranty you have and when it expires.

I would get an extremely loud click from my standard harddrive on the Y570. This would occur at random times (both idle and active use). I gave Lenovo a call, they shipped me out a replacement hard drive, I replaced it myself, and the sound is gone.

SMART tools and HDTune both showed everything as normal but the click can be a sign of pending hard drive failure. Give Lenovo a call and see what they can do for you. I specifically asked for a replacement hard drive and they were happy to oblige.

A follow up to my clicking hard drive. I returned the laptop to Office Depot for another Z570, the last one they had, no clicking so far after 2 days of use. Thanks for the responses.
