For those waiting quasi-patiently for their Z60 (M or T), does anyone have an order status other than "back-ordered"?

I was told 2 week wait about a week ago for my Z60t 2511E4U. I'll believe that when I get an e-mail saying it has shipped.

I ordered Z60m on 11/02. At that time the shipping date is 12/06. My order was backordered two times in between. Now it is showing the shipping date as 01/06/06. When I called the Customer service they are telling that I may get the system in the next two weeks.

BigV, when did you order your z60t? I ordered mine on 11/7/2005, and status said it will be shipped on 1/2/2006. But on 12/08/2005, Lenovo emailed me saying that my z60t has been shipped. Right now, I'm not very excited even my order has been shipped because UPS tracking said my package is being held by a brokage and beyond their(UPS) control. Now my package is being held by a brokage, I assume that will take another 3-5 days for my order to arrive.

I put the order in on 12/4/05, and I believe I called last tuesday or wednesday (6th/7th) to find out the approximate wait time, once my order confirmation came back.

I think Lenovo just wasn't prepared for the demand that this new laptop would generate. It seems obvious they didn't have a sufficient stock to fill demand. To be fair to them, this was sort of a testing of the waters as far as acceptance of the new Lenovo Thinkpads. At any rate, I really hope it is only another week, since I was looking forward to having some time to muck about with it and get it setup just how I want before the new semester at school starts up in January.

hey Catch, I ordered a z60m on Oct. 30 (about the same timeframe as you)...which model did your order? Mine was 252902U and I was told they may be in stock in the next week or so, but like others have said, I will believe it when I see it.

I had an order for a z60t from Oct. (anniversary sale). Custom configured to save on memory, disk drive, optical drive costs (which are more cheaply upgraded elsewhere). Also upgraded to M 770 processor. Anyways, after 6 weeks I get a notice this week that the ship date had moved from 12/16 to 1/23. On the phone, they say it's due to the customizations. They basically offer to ship me a system in 5 days without the customizations or discounts (and also a slower M 760 processor). I told them to cancel my order and have ordered an asus z63a instead.

That's the kind of vendor behavior I expect out of dell, and is why I don't buy systems from them. I suspect they are waiting for the spot prices of components to go down before filling orders. Hey, I wish I could sell computers at last years prices next year too!

My rep at PC Mall is saying he is waiting on orders for the z60m (2529-EAU, 2GHz, 1024ram, 100gig HD) and said 3 weeks would be a safe lead time if anyone was interested. I ordered my z60t on the 16 of nov. and came 3 weeks later. Sounds better than what I've been hearing you guys have been going through to get these. I think Lenovo is giving resellers priority it seems.

BTW, with my asus order, the vendor called ME to ask if it was ok if the shipment might slip until tomorrow. Talk about night and day difference! Will get a faster disk and brighter display by not going with the z60t as well. I feel like a sucker for having held out for lenovo for so long...

I ordered a Z60m on 12/1. On 12/5 the status was "processing" with a projected ship date 1/5/06. Over the weekend I tried to check up on it online and it give a "bad order number" error, so I emailed a question. No answer. An hour ago I called. Turns out they cancelled the order and didn't bother to tell me. Then right away I got an email back saying the same and that they tried to contact me via email regarding a "problem" with the order, but they say they got no response from me.

    1. BS, there was no email. They lied.
    2. They have my phone number. They didn't call.
    3. I'm pissed.

I placed an order on the 9th. Yesterday, my status was that of "back-ordered"; it is now "within 2-4 weeks," which at least matches what it said originally, which was bkac-ordered but expected to ship January 12 (the day before my birthday, but three days after the next semester starts.

Icegeek, if you'd be willing to keep us posted on what's going on with your order (which sounds unacceptable, to say the least), I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one interested to know.

    Thanks,
    Howie

I'm using Sony BX series, and I'm very pleased with it while waiting for my z60t arrives. My z60t is still on hold somewhere on earth and doesn't seem to make it within this week.

CNET seems to think the Z60t is a great candidate for dual core (or is it PC magazine?). Would be nice to have waited till Jan and find Dual core in your notebooks...

my classmate ordered the z60m of HK university special sale, the laptop has been sent to his university in HK.
because of the delay, lenovo will give them Windows 2003 or 512m ram free.

Well, they sent me a couple more emails trying to "explain" what happened. They didn't repeat the lie about trying to contact me, but they didn't apologize for it, or for not doing so, either. No, I'm not happy with how that all went and I took it as a sign to reconsider the maxed-out Z60m. I hummed and hawed, looked again at the Fujitsu and Asus lines and angsted some more over the powerbooks and that whole Mac-thing, but ended up ordering a 15" SXGA T43 (to replace my 14" SXGA T41, which replaced a T22) for $500 less than the Z I had originally ordered. Since ordering the T, "<2 weeks" became "2-4 weeks" with a projected ship date 4 weeks out. Bastards got me and they know it.

Another tale of waiting and having similar "2-4 weeks" and "backorder" issues as everyone else:

I ordered a z60m (252902U) on 11/14 with an expected ship date of 12/16 (today). Yesterday it was updated to "back-ordered" with a new shipdate of 1/30! I called, the rep told me it was in "packing" and should be shipped today....which of course it didn't, still listed as backordered. I called again, the rep this time told me that the other rep was incorrect and must have been looking at someone else's order (which he was not), that it was definitely backordered, but that he would update my order so that it was one of the first to ship whenever new stock came it (which sounded like a nice way to get me off the phone), although it did move my new shipdate to 1/13. I just checked the status again, now the system is actually listed as in packing phase, but the 512Mb of free RAM I opted for is still backordered...

Moral of the story: (a) don't trust the website, don't trust the reps, (b) harassing the reps may or may not be useful, (c) it is not clear if having additional items on your order will affect when they decide to ship your system.

....and hopefully this laptop doesn't totally suck.

I personally decided to say screw it and am getting an Asus Z63a. For $75 more, I got double the RAM, double the HDD space and DVD+-RW instead of DVD/CD-RW, compared to the Z60t I had ordered.

I think I saved about 30% by canceling my z60t order and switching to the asus z63a. It's hard to compare as there are items such as the docking station that just can't be had with the asus. Also the z60t order was inefficient in that I would have to "waste" the 5400rpm disk and buy a 7200rpm replacement (of which SATA versions are hard to come by), and one has to buy a second battery in order to get the max sized one. Whereas the z63a comes with the largest battery size standard, and you can configure it with a 7200rpm disk from the start.

Continuing their poor business practices, lenovo has now spammed me about recycling of computer gear, even tho I canceled my order. I did not opt-in to any of their lists...

BTW it only took 2 days to receive the asus...
