I have the 1680x1050 high resolution screen. No matter how I look at it, the color and contrast look very faded, especially when I put it next to my crappy Inspiron 3800 from work. The picture quality is sharp, and the brightness is there, but the colors are so dead.

Anyone else with the same impression?

Reds and a few other colors seem to be super washed out when viewing some images, but perfectly fine when looking at an entire spectrum of colors. I am thinking there is some adjustment needed to get things back into check. Reds out of anything else look really wacky because they look light pink, instead of deep red.

You can try to perform some TFT/Monitor-Calibration with some suitable hardware- and/or software-tool, in order to adjust the screen colorings to your overall used lighing conditions. Especially when doing serious picture work it is always a good idea to generate an individual icc-profile, which you can afterwards hook into the WinOS for usage.

Hey, not bad! Thanks Aurora. After my post, I realized I can change the color settings in the ATI setup, but the numbers in the thread you provided helped even more. I'm doing some adjustments with those numbers to best suit my taste. MUCH crisper and vivid now!

I have that video calibration video from Netflix... I forget the name. I'll try using that. If not, I can pop in any Disney film that has the THX calibration, which is relatively decent.

not to sound stupid but i just recived my z60m and the color setting were set to medium (below 32mil colors), it explains all the colorwash issues and that it still works fine under colortest.

please try and change the colors to 32 mil and let me know if it help.

Yeah, mine was set to 16-bit originally. But even after setting it to 32-bit, the picture still looked faded. I tweaked ATI's video settings, and it helped a lot. So glad I got the x600. :)

Well, for better and really good and correct color calibrating etc. I recommend to use something like EYE-ONE DISPLAY 2 or something like that.

These are by NO MEANS the most optimized figures. I just twiddled around with the sliders.

    • Red: 1, 0, 90
    • Green: 1, 0, 95
    • Blue: 1, -18, 80

I have AVIA, so I'll play around with that, although I'm supposed to return this baby soon and wait for the replacement (3/14!).

I'm just not happy with the 5 or so dead pixels. One that's always there when the light is black. Others are harder to find, but are there.

I just rebought using the BUILD YOUR OWN on their website instead! It's rather hidden, but it's there. This allowed me to save $20 on shipping.

PLUS: IT TURNS OUT WIN XP PRO IS CHEAPER THAN WIN XP HOME! I don't know why the sales rep didn't tell me this, so I picked Home thinking I'll save money.
