I'm looking for some feedback/advice on the Z60M. I can get a substantial discount on a nicely equipped model....Can purchase for about $1500 thru corporate discount. It
retails for about $2400.
I was looking for a laptop for internet, email, some light business use, usually excel, powerpoint. Will need for some light travel, maybe once a month. Maybe a movie or game once in a while.
I always thought of thinkpads for more mainstream business users. I'm very pro thinkpad, but for my current needs I thought I would be purchasing options I would not necessarily use. Even with the discount are there better choices out there that would meet my needs? Your thoughts/comments are appreciated. Here most of the details on the Z60M.

It is a well built notebook with excellent keyboard and support. The 15" SXGA+ on the T42/43 is a better screen. I think for what you are doing it is an excellent choice.

Yep, looks like a very nice one, unless the resolution (1280x800) will be limiting you.

I've got the same setup, and I love it. Love it love it love it. One suggestion would be to purchase a 6-cell battery as well. A lot of people do prefer the T43 (I'm sure someone whill share some thoughts on the matter), but I'm extremely satisfied with my choice.

I also have the same setup. I bought it for my dad for $1500 through AMEX deal during X-mas. It's a beast of a machine.

The deal was to good to pass up, so I ordered one. Anything comparable would have cost $750+ or more, and the build quality was not the same. I could live with some of the extras I would not normally use.
I was able to get my hands on the same unit for a few days, and I agree the 9-cell is nice for home/office use, but the 6 cell would be a better fit when taking the occasional trip. I will order one at some point. -

Better in colors, viewing angles, resolution. Probably not as bright.

Did you ever saw a MaxBright panel vis-a-vis a 15" SXGA+?
The MaxBright not only offers much more brightness (measured 30...242 cd/m², it also offers better contrast (measured 361:1) and a much more even lighting/brightness distribution (measured ~86%), than the 15" SXGA+. - The only advantage the 15" SXGA+ has is the slightly better viewing angles and resoluton, coloring is not really better.
Below are some images from just the 15.4 1680*1050 (WSXGA+) in contrast, which is not as good as the MaxBright panel, but maybe you can imagine how the maxbright is then instead (note: images have been referenced/taken from the Korean Nottes site)...

Actually, those pictures are of the R51. I can't comment on the R51's screen quality - especially based on photos. However, I have the MaxBright Z60M and think the screen is fantastic (better my desktop LCD for which I paid $360 in December).
Best,
Howie
