Recently I bought Z60m(2529-04u). I installed Windows XP professional after formatting the C drive. So I lost all the drivers and applications. Later I downloaded and installed the drivers from IBM site. Now the problem is...My spekers are not working..I am able to hear operating system sounds but not any other sounds. When I tried to install audio driver(Which was downloaded from IBM site), I am getting an error message "HDA audio bus device not found." Can anybody please help me in activating my speakers. Thanks in advance.

Could be that you downloaded a driver that doesn't suit your exact configuration, or maybe you tried to install drivers in the wrong order. Trial and error will get you home... -
Probably I installed the drivers in the wrong order..How will I know which things to be installed first and later... Where can i get this order...Thanks...

Don't waste your time, just use the original IBM Recovery
to restore to factory state. Then uninstall Symantec
software.

Did you install the intel chipset drivers by any chance?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=SOFT-UPDATE
Go to that link. It is the auto-update for IBM drivers. Maybe it will catch something you missed.
A link directly to the chipset download program
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58627
Then the newest 915 chipset drivers directly form intel which are newer, but I am not sure on 100% compatiblity. Always worth a shot though as you don't have much to lose

I formatted the C drive only. I didn't format the hidden partition drive ( Partition2 (EISA Utilities)). Do we have restore software in the hidden partition drive...If it is there how will we install that software ?
I installed the software Installer from IBM site...It is not detecting the audio drivers (Which r already downloaded from IBM site to C:\Drivers directory) and not installing them.
I installed Intel Chipset utility(Downloaded from IBM site) on my machine. No use.
Thanks for all your help.. -

Try Pressing the "Thankvantage" key & boot.
Then following the screen to recover.....

I recently purchased a Z60t, and formatted the laptop as quickly, as I simply can't stand factory installs.
Anyway, I have run into the same problem that you have. For reasons unkown to me the chipset drivers provided by Lenovo fail to install the HDA bus driver that should allow Windows XP to identify the audio device. This is the reason why SoundMAX will generate an error when trying to install the audio driver.
I have also tried installing the chipset drivers (915m) from Intel's website only to still have no luck.
After calling Lenovo and dealing with their lackluster technical support (they didn't know what a chipset was until I was transferred to a manager), I believe the best course of action is going to be getting a recovery CD, and the drivers needed, as neither Intel or Lenovo currently provide ones that function.
If I can find a fix in the meantime though, I'll let you know, since this is driving me nuts as well.
Hmm, on second though, is there anyone else on here with a Z60 series laptop that would be willing to upload their HDA audio bus driver?
Thanks in advance. -
Felt like I should post this here, rather than create a new thread. The one I just received has a 100 GB hard drive. The drive's properties, however, show it as having 80 GB of free space and 89 GB total. I want my storage back; is this the same issue with bloatware I've seen others complain about? I'm not sure (and I don't have it with me), but I think it might be running XP Pro. Does that account for the 19 GB I'm missing?
I guess the separate end question is whether or not I should do a reinstall.
Thanks,

Even with the difference between commercial and actual data GB, it should not be 19GB. You might have a hidden partion for the restore part of your computer. I would try and get partion magic.
Alot of computer companies will make a hidden partition for their restore. If you want the space back I would reformat. Don't use the restore disk from the manufacturer, get the windows disc from them and do it that way.
Hope this helps. -
I called Lenovo and got the fix for this audio problem. The problem is we have to download KB88111 fix from microsoft and have to install it first. Then we have to install the Lenovo audio driver. I did this and now sound is coming from my speakers.....hope this will help to all of you
Thanks for all your help and suggestions...... -
Glad you fixed the problem. There's actually a small notice in some of the paperwork that says the ThinkVantage feature stores a backup of some stuff, which I assume means it takes twice the space it normally would. I think I do want the ThinkVantage feature, but I probably don't want every program the provide to be stored on the computer. Is there a way to pare it down to 5 GB or so?
Thanks,

First of all 100-89=11, not 19.
Next, 100GB in decimal is about 93GB in binary, so your hidden partition eats 4GB off your hard disk, which is normal. Leave it be. -
I'm not subtracting 89 from 100; I'm subtracting 81. Even at 93 GB, I'm shorted 12 GB, which is 13% of the drive gone. If there's a way to trim it down before I start filling it up, I'd be interested.

You've got me confused. You said earlier that your drive registers as 89GB total (80GB free). Where did the number 81 come from?
-
Sorry about that. The 89 is total. When I said 80, I meant 81, and I have no idea why I wrote 80.
Total:89
Free: 81 -
OK, the total of 89GB is fine, considering the real size and the hidden partition.
So you have 8GB of used stuff on your hard disk. Well, the XP installation and the drivers and some other stuff take space, don't they? You feel like they take too much space?
