    Hello!

I have a problem installing Windows XP PRO SP2 on IBM Thinkpad Z60m laptop.
When I boot from XP CD, message appear "press any key to boot from CD...." when I press, blank screen appear
    and computer freezes.

If I boot from Vista CD or Windows server 2003, installation begins and everything is ok.
I tryed numerous Windows XP pro CDs, I changed cdrom and still nothing.

I Updated BIOS and embbeded controller but still no luck. But if I run XP installation without harddisk in the laptop, installation starts normal.

I checked in BIOS for Serial ATA (SATA) settings but there is none.

Im out of ideas. Please help!

    Thanks in advance!

    Follow these steps:

Hit F1 when you see the ThinkPad Splash screen. Enter Bios. Set the following settings in BIOS:

When does it freeze to be specific? Does it freeze when it is extracting a certain file or is it when the screen is all black or blue?

When message appear "press any key to boot from CD" and when I press a key, 2-3 seconds later it freezes. The screen is black.

Can you use your recovery partition to restore your system to factory settings?

After that, try the Windows XP CD after.

XP cds are OK, I tryed on another computer and it works fine.

How can I use the recovery partition?
Is there any other possibility rather than recovery partition, because this laptop is from the company where I work and it is used daily and if this doesnt work Im screwed.

When I installed WindowsXP Pro on this laptop 2 years ago I experienced no problems.

Did you burn your recovery discs?

If not, you should do that first. Here it is from my guide:

Same Problem as I have with trying to install Win XP Home on my Z60m.

I am trying to install Win XP Home on my Z60m (2529-ETG, BIOS version 1.24, Embedded Controller version 1.18) on a new Samsung HM160HI. CD is OK. Install runs until Windows says 'Rebooting for completing installation' (I don't know if these are the right words for the englich version because i'm german and so i'm using a german version)
Then the Z60m reboots but hangs (i guess just before displaying the Windows Boot Screen) and shows a blinking cursor in top right corner of the screen.
I've also applied the patch provided by Samsung for this drive, but I think, it's not a problem of this drive.
Cloning the original drive with acronis drive backup shows the same problem.
Any idea? Something to change in my BIOS.

Please excuse my bad english, but I hope that I can make you understand my problems.

Yes I do, but RRMedia.exe just crashes. May be, I should have created my media before updating the system software.
