    Hi all,

I've started noticing some creaking coming from my Z60m. Would you test yours and comment on the following locations? I'm thinking cracking the case and adding some material (electrical tape?) to some of these locations to get ride of these sounds.

-Lower left hand corner of the palm rest. Put your Z60m on a solid surface, and press down on that corner. I get a good creak, and I can see the palm surface separate a bit from the underside plastic. This one bugs me the most as I hear it when typing.

-The right hand side, between the Optical bay and S-Video port. Press directly in on that plastic area. Big time creak. Annoying cause when I pick up the laptop, I usually grab it from this side.

Any other locations y'all can comment on? I'm a bit surprised, as the old T23 I still have is solid as a rock. Can I expect this to get worse over time??

All teachers of my former school had Dell notebooks and I never experienced that a teacher had problems that was 'Dell-like'. Our old math teacher had his Dell stolen. But if that's Dell to blame... :p

    Gee glad I asked

I know what ya mean though; my I6000 flexed like a wet noodle, and creaked if you looked at is sideways.

I have nothing against Dells as i used to own an Inspiron with the P3 833Mhz about 6 years ago and i loved that design because it was rock solid until they introduced the new laptops with the Banias chip. I was really disappointed how flimsy and cheap the material was, and i had paid over $2K for it. I remember calling the customer support and they asked me if i'll keep the laptop if they gave me a $200 credit, i still refused and asked for a refund cause the quality and design sucked that bad. I knew it wouldnt last more than a year probably.

    4) Huh? Whaaaa? Is that code for drugs or something?

Thanks for answering the question HM. Not sure how this got off on a "Dell sucks" kick.

I wonder if my creaking is a result of removing the palm rest a few times. I've swapped memory more than once.

Last night, I popped it off once more and tried to analyze the contact points; I found a few likely suspects and added a small strip of electrical tape or two. No more creak!

No creaking for me, but I do get some squeeking noises with my left touchpad button. It's so annoying. Luckily, I'm returning my z60m for another one (hopefully the new one won't have dead pixels!).
