After extensive research, this looks like the one for me. T60 is overkill. I don't need Core Duo. T43 it is dratted difficult to find out which ones have Flexview, for one thing.

I realize shipping can be tedious. Popular configurations ship faster?

    Anyway, here's what I need:

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?
    $1,500 - $1,800 *TOTAL*

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

    3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Internet, DVD viewing, recordkeeping, multiple viewers

    4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
    Work, home

    5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
    Heh. I like MUDs.

    6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    NA

    7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
More are better, but not imperative.

    8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I live in the boonies (Florida Keys), so not much choice. There is an Office Max an hour away in one direction and an Office Depot an hour in the opposite direction.

    9) What country are you buying this in?
    USA

    Screen Specifics

    10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
    WXGA or +

    11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Whichever has a wide horizontal viewing angle.

    Build Quality and Design

    12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Ergonomically, should be comfortable but not faddish. I have other things to be vain about.

    13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
    STURDY. I'm clumsy.

    Notebook Components

    14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
    40 is fine.

    15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive?
    DVD-CD/RW

about the t60 being overkill...i really think that theres no such thing with laptops. with the speed that technology changes, overkill today will be perfect for tomorrow and outdated for the day after. whenever i buy something new, i always try to get the very best i can afford at the time so it will last. go for the t60 i say!

Really, it shouldn't be overkill. Core Duo is much better than any single core processor. Though you think you might not use it, how annoying is it when your antivirus comes on and you either have to stop it or get off the computer? Having a core duo eliminates that, something that I didn't even realize would happen until I got my desktop.

There's more to it than just being for people who are going to use professional programs.

    Thanks, folks!

So, what's this I read about Core Duo leading to hang time while the processors decide which of the two has priority at the moment? I don't have the link handy, but I know I read something about it somewhere...

^I think that's a problem that two processors had. But, having dual core eliminates that because they're on the same die, which leads to better communication between the two cores. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.

I'm wondering when the z60m will have the duo core since I prefer a wide screen version. I mean, the t60 isn't that bad but if there's no plans for a duo core for the z60m, then i might as well get the t60...

    anyone here with any news?

They'll probably be pricey at first. As more come out prices will start to fall.
