    Hi Guys

Please be gentle as this is my first post here (I am from UK, so any reference to models would be for UK).
I think I have narrowed down a new laptop to the Z60m. I usually keep my laptops for around 3 years. I need to make a purchase within the next 3 months.

My main question if anyone knows, is Lenovo going to release a Core Duo Z60m soon? There is a major exhibition (Cebit) coming up soon in March. Any chance they might release something then?

The laptop I am thinking of getting is the Z60m UH3FKUK, I think the US equivalent is the Z60m 2529 EAU.

I am not in a desperate rush to get a laptop, but whatever I buy, I want to make sure it lasts another 3 years.

Anything short of a 1.3 celeron M will be good for most things 3-4 years from now.

What are your reasons for needing a core duo right now? that said, the z60's were made for dual core in mind, but no idea on ETA.

There is no real need for Core Duo, to be honest. The only reason is that as I am spending so much money, I want to make it as future proof as possible. With the coming of Vista and the next Office package, having a dual core could help in the future for multitasking.

A quick note, I wouldn't upgrade to Vista straight away, as I believe it might be full of bugs, and I don't want to be a tester for Microsoft!

I am going through the exactly the same conundrum myself, with duo core machines starting to appear :) The GPU in the z60m will support Windows Vista, check out this Ati Radeon link, it may not run all the graphics but nobody seems to know exactly what its going to look like, suprise surprise. All I have seen so far is sidebar with a couple of graphics for rss feeds .. whoop-de-doo ;)

I have heard that duo core is great for mulit-tasking, eg running a dvd rip on one processor and all other tasks on the other. This is a good article comparing duo core with sonoma on identical laptops - anadtech duo core article. The link is down for me but from memory the difference is there but not great. I read that when we get true 64 bit that will be a big difference.

The guys at Lenovo wouldn't give details but looks like the duo core Z series should be available middle to later this year - Z series.

    Cheers

They will be updating but at this time we don't know a date for that. You see, if I did know a date I'd have to say I can't comment and that would probably mean it's very soon. So take this for what you will.
