It is my understanding the the Core Duo "Z" will be announced soon... perhaps sometime between
    April 10 and the 14th.

If my sources are correct there will also be screen options for the "t" model as well as a faster processor.

If anyone else can verify or add information I would very much like to hear about it.

This morning I went to the computer department at the UCLA student union and compared the build quality of the Z60t against a T43. I must say, I found the "Z" to have a more solid feel with better proportions. The biggest lag for the "Z" is Lenovo's limitations on high-end upgrades - perhaps this will soon change. Sweet!!!

That's an interesting last statement. Usually it's the opposite.

An announcement will only mean that it will be months before we can get these so called faster units in our hands...

I think they'll be ready by July, maybe August..

    Hmmm
We have recently bought 2 Z60m's for th eoffice and I must say for "plastic" laptops the feel is solid but given the bulk, esp. for the 15.4" WSXGA, it should be. As for me, there is still a better "latent" feel to my T43 - compare Tonka with an original Dinky - it's your call...

Just spoke to the Lenovo rep - he said the Thinkpad z61t will hit the web site on May 12th...

I assume that's ture - he said they're feeling the competition from Dell, Apple, and all the other manufacturers who have already brought out a core duo wide screen... including Lenovo!

    We'll see

That sounds awesome. The T60 sounded like the perfect notebook if I could spare the money, then one day, I realized, "wait a minute....the T60 isn't widescreen...and I want/need a widescreen.." lol, it took me a little over a month to realize that the T60 wasn't widescreen...I just assumed it was, lol.
So, the Z61 will likely be the candidate for me depending on available options, price, weight, and batt. life...

In the latest tabook, it can be seen that many Z60t and Z60m will be
withdrawn in June. Looks like some room being made for the upcoming Z61's !
