What's the difference between the two? I downgraded my Z61M from Vista Business to XP Pro with a clean install and followed the instructions in the sticky that specifically mentions you need to change from "ACHI" to "Compatible" before the clean install. Now when I try to switch back to "ACHI" after the clean install, I get BSOD repeatedly at bootup. My system won't bootup unless it's in SATA "compatible" config in the BIOS. Any idea what's wrong here? Thanks!

have you used windows update before switching to ACHI?
-
Yes, did all the critical updates on Windows Update. Could it be related to this "unknown device" driver problem? Thanks!
"Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9" -
maybe its the Thinkvantage system update then... you will need a driver for XP to be able to use ACHI...

I tried the ThinkVantage self update but it's not showing I need anything. Do you know which driver listed here is applicable to this problem? Thanks!

Sorry I didn't post this right away

I have a Z61m and have installed XP and Vista multiple times on it. You only need to be in compatibility mode until you get the SATA drivers installed.

I downloaded this driver and followed the instructions. I can now bootup in ACHI but the exclamation mark of the "unknown device" "Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9" is still there. I asked it to look under the new driver folder but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!
