yeah. The Z6#m's aren't really designed for travel. They are really desktop replacements...though Lenovo doesn't call them that.

I dont get all these complaints about the weight of the z61m. I ordered a black one that is claimed to be 5.94, even if that is with the optical drive removed add that in and thats still only 6.3 or so. The T60 15inch weighs that much too. Does the z61m really weigh 10 pounds or something???

nah... it's just that sometimes we are stuck or have our mind set that over 6pounds is heavy and all...

well i do punching and boxing with both hands holding 6-10 pounds each of weights... maybe its a different story for some having their machines on their backpacks or messenger bags.

holding the laptop and considering its weight will be different in some occassions:lifting it up on one side (making it heavy), holding it in two hands (fine), carrying it in a bag (stress on back?)

I would say it is about a half a pound heavier than the 15" T60, maybe a little more.

When you add the extra weight of the Z61m and the extra bulk, then it adds up to a hefty laptop. There is nothing wrong with this, but alot of people like having a smaller laptop (except for all the crazy college freshmen who want 17" gaming laptops and then realize their second year that it was a stupid, stupid idea to get something so big.)

I've got the Z61m with the black lid and, honestly, it's never struck me as annoying to carry in my messenger bag. Though it is funny to make fun of it because it looks like a slab of lead. I'm sure the z61t is a bit more comfortable for travel but it really is nice to have the no compromise (i know it's huge : ) performance with the ATI card, high res screen and screen size, whether it be at home or on the road. The Z61p just seems to emphasize this further. If I develop a crooked spine I'll be sure to post so that you can all make fun of me : )

My nephew wants one too (Z61m) Mike...he goes to college in the fall. He likes the look of the "slab". Doesn't want a silver laptop, like everyone else has. We bought his sister a T43 that she took to college last year.

Yeah, I doubt he'll be disappointed. The Z61m in black just looks.........masculine. I guess all thinkpads do (or professional if you prefer) and it's something that I didn't appreciate until I had one sitting in front of me. With his TP, he'll be one of the few kids not yielding a shiny silver or candy white computer. The screen will show pretty things when he wants to see them. The T43 also sounds like a wonderful machine for school.

A more basic question, why are they dubbing it TopSeller ThinkPad Z61p and what's up with smashing those two words together. How can it be a top seller if it was just announced? Or, I mean, a TopSeller.

    [Edit]

Okay, so the "TopSeller" program is the name replacing "Think Express"

"The TopSeller Program Offerings are designed to:
Offer relevant technologies and configurations for government and education customers.
Make selection and ordering easy for Lenovo government and education customers.
Combine low prices and good availability."

    http://www.pc.ibm.com/partner/us/lenovo3000/TopSeller.html

I thought "Express" made it more obvious something was available quickly.

Two quick things I've noted re: the Z61P info, and a question:

On the PDF info sheet for the Z61P, options for black or titanium covers are listed -- looks like models with silver lids might be in the works later.

Also, the new (July/v310) tabook ref. for the Z61P has headers for WWAN and camera; the only listed model (9450-3AU) has neither, but it makes one wonder whether those options are planned, too. The only other model I could find that lists options that universally aren't available in any configuration are BT, FP, and camera headings for the Z61e.

Which brings me to my question...

I haven't followed the progression of Z61* options to date, but I notice that the Z61e (and, obviously, the Z61p) models have far fewer available configs than their Z61m and Z61t brethren. In the past, have the new Lenovo model options been introduced piecemeal -- meaning that the Z61p goodies I mentioned above are likely on the way (as well as some interesting Z61e options)? Or have the configs initially available in the tabook basically WYSIWYG, and the feature headers cut 'n' pasted from other, more full-featured models?

Another feature I noticed is that this is an ABS plastic case rather than the carbon fiber case and the magnesium alloy roll cage on the Z60t/61t
