I am looking at buying a Z61m (9452-e8u) for school, but am concerned with the current shipping delays.
I am leaving for school on Sept 16th, and while i realize I most likely will not receive it before then, I was wondering, given other people's experiences, when I might expect it.
    Thanks

Mine came in three weeks and I ordered it shortly after it became available in May. I don't think you would be waiting for it for more than 4 weeks and you may get it sooner.

I think it's a great notebook for school, especially if you're using the large screen to view complex power points, instructional videos and diagrams. I bring mine to school every day and it's really nice to have a powerful and solid machine at your disposal.

The weight might put off some for carrying it everyday.

I ordered mine last Thursday and am excited to get it! My current estimate is 3-6 weeks.

I don't think I will be carrying it to school everyday though, because ZaZ mentioned it to be quite heavy in his review. But it's still nice to know that I have the option to bring it to campus in case I ever need to work on labs and projects at the library (where the computers are always busy).

I dont get all these complaints about wieght. I am a college student and my business law book weighs about two times as much as my z61m. I ordered mine july 5th and got it August 17th, but now they seem to be shipping faster.

njcs, I feel the same way. I have the black cover version and I think its 6.2 or 6.3 lbs. That's not much heavier than other mainstreem 15.4" notebooks. I bring it with me everyday and its size and weight simply don't bother me in the least. I think this is an extremely subjective subject though because I met a girl today in class with an x60s and she cited its small size and weight as the main reason for buying it. I, on the other hand, care more about a machines power and screen realestate. She's petite and I'm 200lbs. We see these things very differently.

I have the same feeling about its weight as njcs and mikeponm. It's a black cover version, and so a little lighter than the titanium version ZaZ reviewed.
I went ahead and ordered it. My estimated shipping date is Sept 11, and when I ordered (I did it over the phone) my rep said they had 1 in stock of that model, just waiting for me to order it! Hopefully it will be here by the time I leave. I could have bought a lesser machine for a bit less (even with EPP discount on Lenovo), but knowing that it will last is more important than saving a little money now.

MatEJ, I'm envious. I just called Lenovo today and they said the Z61m I ordered was not in stock, and the estimated wait time is 4-5 weeks.

It's already shipped! I upgraded to 2 day shipping ($50 ouch!), so it's scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'm sooo excited!

On 8/18 I ordered the z61m 9452-e8u (seemed like good machine w/ good educational discount). Due to low limit on my university credit card, it didn't clear with Lenovo til 8/22. The order status showed "by 9/12" on 8/28. I phoned & said I'm leaving for Europe for 4 months in a week (this is true). UPS delivered it to my department on 9/1! It's still in plastic so I can't yet say whether I like it. But at least it's here and I can get on the plane with it.
