For several months my Z61m running XP Pro has been locking up every time I remove the USB keyboard when I go off to a meeting. I get the same problem at home when I unplug the USB KVM when I take my ThinkPad to another room in the house.

In both cases I must shutdown the ThinkPad before unplugging anything which is such a pain. (Especially when running late for meeting) USB thumb drives do not seem to cause the lockup.

I did a few searches and couldn’t find any post with the exact problem but this is what I’ve tried so far.

    • Defragged drives
    • Updated Bios
    • Ran Lenovo updater and downed installed all system updates
    • Tried Disabling USB boot options in Bios
    • Tried the USB Keyboard and USB KVM on different USB plugs

Does anyone have any suggestions or run into this problem?
