    Hello,

I have found this very informative forum yesterday during an internet research for Lenovo IBM Z61m/p. Although I searched up this forum and several other pages, the needed information about this notebook cannot be found or only as information in generall which is to little for a well made decision of buying or better not.

These are the questions I have regarding the Z61m or p:

    1. I know that the z61m/p comes with Intel's High Definition Audio which is able according to this source here http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/hdaudio.htm to provide Dolby Digital sound e.g. 5.1 or 7.1 . I also know that the z61m/p has no SP/DIF port directly on the notebook, so no digital sound output is possible by the notebook itself. But the z61m/p has a port replicator port for e.g. Lenovo Think Pad Advanced Mini Dock which itself provides a SP/DIF port. ( http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=-840&storeId=10000001&langId=-1&dualCurrId=73&categoryId=2581897&productId=4611686018425101089 )

Is the sound system of the z61m/p able to provide digital audio out via the SP/DIF port of the docking station/port replicator, means is the sound system in general able to offer digital audio data?

    2. According to my information (I got from my dealer) the only difference between z61m and z61p is the larger/other graphics memory which is in z61m 128 MB (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400) and in z61p 256 MB (Ati Mobility Fire GL V5200). My question: Which graphics system is better, I don't play any ego-shooters, but the notebook should be able to cope with CAD 3D Software, e.g. Catia V5 in good performance. Please have in back of your mind making your advise, the z61p is 300 € more expensive than the z61m. Is that worth it?

    3. z61m/p comes with Intel T2500 Core Duo 2,0 GHz, which is a really good CPU. But at the beginning of September 2006 Intel brought its Core 2 Duo processor family new to market, which Asus as one of the first notebook suppliers already assembles in its notebooks. Regarding the actual situation and having approximately 2 months of time to come to a decision for the notebook (z61m/p is my actual favorite), makes it sense to wait for Core 2 Duo in Lenovo notebooks or better buy the "out of date" Core Duo, maybe for a reduced price? I have a offer of the z61m for 1495 €.

    4. Which other notebook (Core Duo 2,0 GHz, 1 GB, 128 MB (non-shared) graphics, 100 GB HDD, 15,4 " display, digital sound, battery working time ca. 4-5h) in the price area around 1500 € with equal/comparable or better performance data is recommendable?

Thank you for your help in advance and please excuse my English I'm from Germany ;)
