Hello,
I would like to decide wether to buy a NC8430 or a IBM Z61m/T60. Fan noise is a VERY important issue for me![]()
If I work in office mode (word, outlook, excel, firefox, winamp) I would prefer not the hear the fan.
E.g. if I step one step (one meter) back in a very quite room, I want not to be able to tell whether the notebook is turned on or off.
What about the Z61m? Can you describe me a little bit how loud it is in everyday use? You could help me a lot, because it is not available in stores here, and it you do mailorder in Switzerland, you can't return them if you don't like the product :-/ And I am really sensible towards fan noise...
So thanks a lot for your help![]()
...maybe you know even both models and can compare them![]()

I don't remember it being overly noisy. You can get with the Intel 950 card. It will produce less heat therefore less fan noise.

I have the z61m with the x1400 and the noise is extremely quite if you're just doing office suite tasks. I'm sitting in the library right now and I can't hear it when I lean back away from the table.

thats true but I would like to have the possibility for occasional gamingBut Powerplay should be fine to reduce the heat of the X1400 during office, I hope...
@alvin545: thanks, that sounds good. But shouldn't you be working in a library rather than surfing the internet? ;-) No seriously, that is good, cause I will be working in quite libraries a lot... -
I have a Z60m w/ a x600 from ATi and when it's on battery, it's dead silent. When it's plugged in, there's a little fan noise, but you can't hear it unless you're right on top of it.

you won't hear a thing on this baby unless you are gaming and plugged in. otherwise, its dead silent.

Mine is really quiet. sometimes when I'm working with images i can hear a whisper.
