Got my Z61m this week, my first Thinkpad.
It's noisy, the fan goes constantly, regardless of what I do.
Is there any way of getting some silence besides turning the damned thing off?

What I was really surprised about with my z61m, is that its so freakin quiet. I do run it at its lowest settings when on Battery, but even on Highest settings the fan isn't too bad when it does run. I've been around Dells, HPs, Sonys, Toshibas, etc and they are OMG so freakin loud. I use to be able to stand it since my Desktop is so damn loud (I overclock) but after a couple months on this thing, to be around other laptops is annoying. -
Thanks!
At last some peace and quiet..
I tweaked around in the ThinkVantage settings, it's quiet now, at the cost of some performance I guess.
The TP Fan utility seems interesting, has anyone tried it on a Z-model?
Lot's of warnings, I might be toasting my new rig, but.., well.., I bought a 3 year insurance designed for idiots.., so.., I might risk it, have to check the insurance terms first though.
