I'm almost ready to trade in my trusty T21, and am looking at the Z61t as a possible replacement. However, several reviews - most notably one in the Review section of this site - have mentioned that the heat generated by the machine is an issue.

My R52, which I use with a cooler, averages around 45 degrees - even after more than 8 hours of continuous, and sometimes heavy, use. I know that coolers can reduce heat by a few degrees, but I'm concerned about how much hotter the Z61t apparently runs. I thought that one of the biggest benefits of the Core Duo setup was that it ran so much cooler than previous generation machines. So why is my R52 cooler?

Z61t owners, please provide some feedback.

That is odd, esp. since the Z61t has integrated graphics. If it proves a problem, I can recommend the T60. Mine, at least, runs quite cool.

I've read this review and it sounds really strange for me...
I don't know whether is true or not but just don't trust everything you read in these reviews.. and it's a ThinkPad

I have the bigger version Z60m which is amazingly cool. no heat really

and look at the review about z60t (z61t is just the updated version)
it's true for my z60m too - no heat comes out even from the vents

Anyway, wait for response from z61t owners.

Warm after extended use, never hot.

I own a z61t and can say that it runs pretty cool. At no point has it ever become uncomfortable to use on my lap. If you change the power schemes, you may make the fans run quieter, but this will also increase heat.

I really never even think about the heat that my Z61t generates...this is probably becuase its not enough for me to notice or care about.

One more thing about heat: When I had NHC installed, my ThinkPad ran significantly hotter. Even with CPU undervolting. Weird, perhaps, but I decided I was messing with it too much. The reviewer from the review you cited also got rid of the stock software. Probably a mistake, in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear there isn't a heat problem. The noted review didn't seem accurate to me either, and I'm glad to have that feeling confirmed.

Core Duo generates significantly more heat than pentium m. Thus the additional vents in the thinkpad 60 series.
