I'm debating whether or not to get the titanium lid for the Z61t. How durable is the regular black lid and what material is it made out of? Does it scratch easily etc...? Thanks in advance.

I read a lot about this and the concensus seems to be that black gets fingerprints easier and titanium scratches easier but adds a little bit more protection. I don't think the titanium will ever realistically be the difference maker in a hit anyway.

Truthfully, I think it's ultimately a matter of aethetics. I went for it and after thinking back on it a few days after ordering I was happy I did. It's a little bit of a bling factor with an otherwise very corporate notebook.

    Z61m user here

the titanium lid is worth it. great metallic look of course. also, i do not believe about other people saying that the lid is very prone to scratches. it depends on how you use it. i hope you do not plan on using your laptop as a shield in heroes-knight scenarios :)

mine does not have a single scratch on it since september 2006.

yep, I have the titanium z61t and have no scratches at all. I got it in June 2006 and take to to class almost everyday. I like the look of silver :)

For me it was worth it because I considered additional protection for the lid. As for the sratches as long you keep the lid from hard surfaces and use a sleeve for protection the finish should last a very long time. Compared with the other laptops, it has an "eat Sh*t and Die" look and attitude.

i actually had to get the silver lid even though I didn't want to (it was the only option with WXGA+ AND webcam), but i actually like it more now that I saw it in person.

it looks really slick, but not at the expense of looking less professional (which is why I was hesitant to get it).

get it.. i don't think you'll regret your decision! -=)

Have had the titanium lid since September 2006 also, and no scratches on it so far.

All I use is a regular laptop backpack. The lid seems to hold up well!

Also, it seems like the titanium lid is "smoother" in finish, and easier to clean then my friend's black lid on his T60.

I think titanium is better than regular abs plastics. In some thread (forget the link) said that there some substantial flexiness with regular case. That is not the case with titanium. Everything is firm. The downside is the laptop become heavier.

One of the seller in the store in my town demonstrate the titanium by scratching a small nickel to it. No scratch at all.

definately. IIRC, the t60 lid is magnesium. Fingerprints stick to it like glass.

Personally, I rather see fingerprints than scratches.
