Anyone tried the ZoneAlarm internet security suite??? I've downloaded it for trial , after ditching Norton and McAfee - the latter seeming to slow down things too much or get annoying. Despite various ediors choice in reviews (including in Laptop magazine), I've found that the ZoneAlarm suite is even slower than McAfee - the privacy module, which includes ad-blocking etc. - renders web pages useless or very slowly (I'm using Firefox) Anyone have experience with it? What's your choice for the least intrusive anti-viral/firewall set up? Current rig: T60 1.5 ram, 7200/100GB, ATI 1400, 14" sxga. BTW, totally love the machine, and returned the famous 15 inch flexview T60 for it.

    A couple of quick questions:

    1. Did you fully uninstall McAfee/Norton? Sometimes even when you think you did it's still may have processes running in the back that's causing your system performance issue. I know Norton is notorious for that.

    2. Do you have concurrent firewall set up? Like Msft's? That may affect your performance as well.

ZoneAlarm is completely incompatible with my Sony Vaio SZ.
Caused me 22 Blue Screens of Death before I figured out it was the culprit.
Slows down my powerful desktop at startup too.

I uninstalled both Norton and McAfee, including cleaning registry. I've disable the windows firewall as well. After disabling the privacy module, it still seems a bit slow. The firewell settings cannot be set to High (which they recomment), or pages virtually will not load. On the medium settings, things function similar or slower than McAfee.

If ZoneAlarm is causing you problems, you may want to check out Comodo Firewall, which is/was being discussed in the Software forums.

It certainly looks promising. I'm actually considering ditching my subscription for Outpost for Comodo.

The free version of Zone Alarm is highly crippled. For free offerings, Comodo seems to be a better choice.

Kerio Personal Firewall is absolutely fantastic.
It blocks absolutely all spyware and makes all page ads disappear (literally).
