My T60 didn't come packaged the greatest from Page Computers. They stuck the Thinkpad box in the corner of a bigger box, and then padded the remaining 3 sides with heavy craft paper. I wasn't exactly thrilled, but nothing seemed wrong at first.

But the more I use it the more concerned I become. Maybe someone else with a T60, specifically a 15" model, could verify if this is abnormal.

I read a review mentioning the flex in the right wrist rest. I have that, and that's fine. But to the right of that, past the IBM logo and fingerprint reader it flexes very significantly. When it flexes the wrist rest plastic rubs quite loudly on the side plastic that extends past the optical drive towards the front.

Above the optical drive, just to the right of the keyboard the plastic piece on the top is very loose. On the left side it flexes a little bit, but on the right it's actually loose. It clicks in and out of place readily. Not a ton, but enough to seem uncharacteristically weak.

Should I be worrying? Does everyone else have this kind of creaking and such? I suspect it took quite a blow in shipping.

Sounds odd. It might be worth it to get a replacement.

If you haven't yet returned the laptop, try checking the screws that attach the wrist rest to the chassis. After I installed another stick of RAM (which requires removing the wrist rest) and reinstalling the wrist rest, I put the screws back in loosely- just in case I had to open everything back up again- and there was a good deal of flex especially by the fingerprint reader.

Once I tightened them to their original states (they were on really tight) no more flex.

But because of your other issues, you should probably just return it.

Actually, I took the wrist rest off and it turns out that on the right side the wrist rest wasn't snapped in with the bezel properly. There's still a little flex over the optical becasue there's nothing supporting the bezel at the very edge, but it's nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately my function key stopped working, so now I have that to worry about.
