Probably not, it's also probably the screw that secures the drive into place.

I am sure it is not intentional. If it is the screw to secure it I suggest you add it on as soon as possible

Look through the box it came in. It's in a little plastic bag. Unless something has changed from previous models, you don't need to install it unless you're afraid someone will steal whatever is in the bay.

I can assure you it is. It is not screwed in by default as it would make hotswapping slow.

It is for "locking" the ultrabay in place. I believe the screw they give you for that screw hole needs a special screw driver..

I think a better term might be security screw. Its not to "secure" it in place, since that is what the latch does, and that might be confusing some people ;)

And the screw provided needs a allen wrench to install, 2.5mm I believe.

    Exactly.

And with that final clarification, I think the horse is completely dead now :)

By the way, the "missing" screw appears in other laptops with super-ultra-slim-whatever-bays too. My old toshiba had the same. It's normal.

hehehe..okay case closed and now i can rest assured that it's normal. i hadn't noticed it until last night while i was reading the labels underneath the laptop bottom. no wonder they shipped with a few extra screws.

Is this not the hole(s) that allow spill drinks go through the computer?

it is to lock in your ultrabay devices such as your dvd burner so no one can easily steal it. I haven't even installed my screw yet. No plans on doing it either

It seems people don't bother to read the full thread. It is not that long - only 19 posts including this one. If you had read the first couple of posts, including the link to forum.thinkpads.com, there would be no need for further explanation. I don't understand why people need to repeat the exact same answers made earlier, to facilitate understanding.
