"This firmware update includes the fix for the case on a system with
Microsoft Windows Vista, that the system may become to display the
following error message at each power on, and then cannot boot from the
hard drive. "2100: Initialization error on HDD0 (Main hard disk drive)""
Is it possible to get any addtional information about the potential problem? Any X200 with 5400.4 3.CMF Vista would halt any time? What's the detailed risk involved, if not doing the harddrive firmware update? The following old post was frightening, though I"m not 100% sure whether these two issues are the same:

With whatever risk , the above tool requires a CD-RW drive. I strongly suggest that Lenovo publishes such tool also in USB-compatible way so that it does not invalidate the idea of carrying a slim X200 around without optical drive burden~ Otherwise, I can only keep my fingers crossed .... believe this is really not an issue of whether Lenovo is capable to do this, but how the support team keeps users in mind..
Thanks.

P.S. Update: I talked to the support. This webpage says the following, but support says an external usb optical drive will work. That's the only info the rep could tell me. He doesn't know how often the boot failure would happen, which really disappoints me.. He suggested I google to find our other's experience -_-
* The hard drive firmware update utility bootable CD does not support USB
optical disc drives, PCMCIA/CardBUS optical disc drives, optical disc drives in
a docking station bay, or any other drives other than the optical disc drive in
the ThinkPad UltraBay. Other drives will not be updated correctly by this
firmware update utility."
