Can a fingerprint reader be added to a T61 by installing a replacement palm rest that has the finger print module?
-
you should be able to. I don't see why not. You'll just have to install the software for it as well.

If warranty is a concern, I'd try to validate that this won't nullify warranty coverage (by replacing chassis components). Just something to consider.

agreed, definitely want to check with lenovo before you go ahead with this. maybe you can ask them how much it would be to buy such a replacement palm rest and if you could send it in to the factory to be installed.

Doesn't the whole wrist rest remove from the whole system? I really can't remember from when I upgraded the ram in my system.
I think you can just pop it off and replace it with the fru you can try ordering from them with the finger print reader attached.
Let us know how much it costs, I'm interested in getting a finger print reader on my system also. -

#2-Comes as one part, wrist rest/reader
Good Luck. -
talked w/lenovo tech support, can't do it.
if your laptop wasn't originally configured to have the fingerprint reader it does not have the connector inside where you would need to connect the fingerprint reader to the laptop. -
Not true, Ive installed palm rest with fingerprint reader on both t60 and t61 non fingerprint models. I had Lenovo send out palm rest replacements on orders that where wrong for a couple of clients. Fingerprint reader is usb based and attaches to the touchpad. I am about to do a third, so go for it.
