    hi, guys.

i just got the x201i i3 thinkpad as present, but the ram is too little , only 2G, i want to add another.

i checked from the lenovo website that it uses
    2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)

what type of ram do i have to buy to be compatible?
can i buy something like this and fit it in?
    2GB Corsair DDR3 1066MHz 200pin SODIMM

    thanks.

I apologize for reviving an old topic, but I just got a new x201i for my work. It comes with 2GB of ram, but I would like to upgrade it to 4GB. Does the X201i have two slots of memory? So I can purchase two 2GB sticks?? Or do I need to purchase a single 4GB stick? Please let me know. Thanks.

yes the x201/s/i/t have two slots that can take 8 gigs of ram. You can purchase either 2 sticks or 1 stick of 4 gigs, choose the latter if you are planning to upgrade it to 8 gigs in the future.

Sweet, thank you. I am planning to upgrade in the future as I can see myself with this notebook for at least 3 years.

Just wondering, would upgrading to 8GB produce a good result? I have an i3 processor on my x201i. I thought these CPUs were limited to the amount of ram that can be maximized. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Thanks.

Really just by your OS (hopefully you have a 64 bit OS). If you have IGP you will benefit from more RAM.

Do you currently regularly use all of your physical RAM? If no, then no -- you won't benefit from a RAM upgrade. If so, then yes, you will.

I do a lot of heavy development work on my laptops (multiple VMs, heavy IDEs/toolchains, plus a largish tmpfs or two), and I'm usually well under my hardware's 3 GB limit. I suspect that if you're an average desktop user you won't need more than 4 GB of RAM, and probably won't even use most of that 4 GB.

You have to get 204-pin DDR3 PC3-8500. Newegg.com have the Crucial 8 GB kit(2 X 4GB) for $82 now. After the ram upgrade you can consider a SSD upgrade.

Thank you for all the help. I ordered the PC-8500 and received it today. However, when I popped out the old memory, it seemed to be PC-10600. What gives?

I went ahead and popped in the PC-8500 anyways and I can already see the drastic response difference - much much quicker.

    More RAM > faster RAM.

Unless you have a Clarksfield Core i7 or an SB processor, they will not natively support 1333 RAM anyway.

Lenovo and most manufacturers sometime put a higher speed ram because they cost very similar and/or they ran out of the slower one.

It is an i3, so I'm assuming an i3 processor will not utilize ram higher than 8500? Thanks.
