    Hi,

I'm looking for a new notebook because my current one is dying, its old, and its seriously out-dated. I was told by my friend to look at the Lenovo Series. I am looking to buy a notebook with the following specifications :

13", 14" or 15" screen with a resolution of 1440x900 (no higher please!)

a good solid battery which can last up to 9 hours (if its possible, i'm sure it is!)

nice large hard disk drive, 40/100 GB's is OK but a larger hdd would be preferable.

not too keen on vista as for thats on my gaming desktop so XP would be nice (xp x64! :)).

also a quiet notebook would be preferable, this current laptop i have has about 20 fans in it (no joke) and its seriously noisey and i HATE it, but it keeps me warm in winter though so its all good. :)

If any forum members would like to post a model number of any Lenovo notebook which matches any of the description above, I'd greatefully appreciate it.

    Thanks!. :D

Are you gaming on it or no? If you are then I suggest T500 with the LED screen (since you dont have the high resolution WSXGA+). If you're not gaming, I would get the cheaper SL500. These are both 15.4 widescreens.
    Get the 9cell battery option.

You can respectively go with T400 or SL400 (for 14" widescreens).

I will not be gaming on my notebook, as for ive just spent a fortune on a new DDR3 Desktop. Which still isnt complete... Yet, lol. I'll checkout those models and thank you Quanger for a response. PS: Are they available in the UK?.

    PS: I found this notebook,

    Lenovo ThinkPad R61 7742 - Core 2 Duo T8300 / 2.4 GHz - Centrino Duo - RAM 1 GB - HDD 160 GB - DVD-Writer - Quadro NVS 140M - Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g - TPM - fingerprint reader - SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SP1 - 14.1" Widescreen TFT 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+ ) - TopSeller

Which is approximatly £600, which is fine. If i have a LEGIT copy of XP x64 do you think it would be possible to dual boot between these two operating systems?. :)

Yes it is. I've always found it's best to install XP first then Linux and let the Linux bootloader handle things.

    R61 i believe is obsolete.
I would probably recommend the T400 with onboard or SL400 with onbaord graphics. You should opt for the p8400 or p8600 with a 6cell battery to maximize portability. I also recommend 2gb of ram. You can opt for 7200rpm hd which is faster but I believe that drains more on your battery and also is noiser and runs hotter.

That's a little harsh. Just because something is no longer in production doesn't make it obsolete.

But it is true that the R61 (and T61) are no longer the latest models.

I think the T400 is way over my budget. I would like to spend less than £700 GBP.

Indeed. I'd still take an old R61 over a new Dell Inspiron any day.
