is there a page particular for thinkpad notebooks. i am blowing into the vents to remove dust, will this damage the fans? i saw dust coming from speaker ports when i blew into the vents, is this normal?

Might even kill the fan header of the motherboard. Better open the notebook and clean it from "inside to outside" and hold the fan while blowing at it.

I seriously doubt your T500 has accumulated enough dust to have the vents blocked off already unless you're playing games under your bed alongside dust bunnies.

A can of compressed air is much stronger than your breath. I wouldn't recommend blowing dust into the vent either..

Try a notebook cooler and see if that helps. Try propping up the rear of the notebook and have airflow underneath it. Even a little bit helps.

Hi...I've been there and experienced the same bro
Here's how you fix it: open her up and remove stock thermal paste. Replace that with some Arctic Silver 5. Wipe down heat sink for dust deposit, blow out dust in fan (stick in damp paper towels to clean fan), then reattach heatsink tight enough so it has enough pressure bet heat sink and chip.

I was running gta4 before I had this "spring cleaning" and it got hoTT~90C for me....now it's nice and cool maxing out at around 76-78.

use tpfancontrol to monitor your system temps

here's my thread for more info:

well hey if if you are playing crazy video games and you know that they are heating up the laptop fast i would recommend that you get a cooling pad. so it not directly on the desk and that would give it enough air passage for it to take it and also try to clean the computer remember blow air from the inside of the computer out. and if you still c that you are having this problem then i would recommend that you send in the computer and have it looked at

cooling pad and cooler is relatively the same...there is, however, two different types of cooling pads: passive and active cooling.

one has a fan that blows air to cool, while the other acts like a giant external heat sink to absorb heat away from your laptop.

just go buy yourself any antec cooling pad, which usually has 2 fans...

btw you never stated exactly HOW HOT (exhaust port or keyboard) and what TEMPs your laptop is reaching. plz get tpfancontrol and post up the temps you are getting

cpu 57 c and gpu 57 c when in idle.

it goes upto 75 and 79-84 for GPU when gaming in kings bounty. the gpu is hovering around 75-79 in COD4 maxed

I think those temps are probably fine.

A lot of GPUs are stable all the way up to 100 degrees C.

for now, my room temperature is near 30-32 degrees. i am afraid that in summer it will go to 40 degrees which will damage my notebook. moreover i travel a lot. i want to get a cooler to make it last longer.

thinkpads have side vents, does any of the coolers have any impact?

Since were in the discussion of cooling - I was wondering if the advance mini dock has a cooling system implemented in it? I notice cool air flowing through the small vents from the dock while gaming.

No, mini dock does not have a cooling system inside it, but it does duct air around the vents in the laptop body.

Those temps are pretty normal. As long as they stay under 90C it's fine. I recommend replacing stock thermal paste with some AC5...that'll drop it down 5-8C
