So many of you have been a great help to me in trying to figure out how and what to buy. I am really at peace about buying a Thinkpad and that feels good after a month of struggling with what to buy. Now my problem is what model to buy?????

I can get a refurb r50 for around $500, so am thinking about that.

A few of you sent me ideas on how to get the r61 down to around $600 but I am not sure I understand all of this. Fatwallet is only offering a 4% discount right now. I found a link for a 25% amex discount, too. When you click on that, it takes you to a page that says AmEx Family Survival (or something like that) prices on the r60i start at $806. There is a link on the right side that says "save 25% with amex". I clicked on that and followed everything through to the final order page but wondered if there will be an additional 25% off once I give my amex card and click order? Does anyone know? There is currently a sale at Lenovo on the t and r series, but when you calculate the savings at $806, it is already about 25% less than "sticker price".

    Thanks everyone!
