I am really annoyed with the unevenly placed thinklight which unevenly illuminates the keyboard on the R61. I never really thought that the unevenly placed thinklight would be this annoying. Everytime I look for keys that are on the far right thats not illuminated like the PGUP, DEL,HOME, ETC KEYS. I have a hard time as those parts are not illuminated. I really miss the old IBM laptops as they had the sense to illuminate the entire keyboard. I really want to do something about this problem. Anyone there feels my problem?
Any advice how to solve this problem?
Its really bugging me to see my keyboard poorly lit by the Thinklight as it was one of the big reasons I took it. I really like the older thinkpads as they were built with great deal of common sense. Please help me.

Sorry you're unhappy, but you can't really move it so I would say learn to live with it or get something that makes you happy.

or turn the room lights up

I was playing around with my thinklight last night, and i dont really see the point in it.

My screen for the most part does a great job keeping to keys lit. Hell even when i turn the backlighting down, i can see the keys. Granted my screens LED lit, but im just not seeing the point in this little thinklight.

    say whatever you want...
i really loved the old thinkpad designs as they were really practical. the new ones without a doubt lack practicality. if thinkpad continues like this it loose its reputation. give me 1 good reason they had to move the thinklight(no, don't tell me its because they had to fix in a webcam on it). I personally think the engineering on the new thinkpad is hideous, they probably have a thick USB wire going up through the side of the display screen till the top connecting the USB webcam hence the uncenteredness. I am going to write a response feedback to Lenevo requesting them if they can downgrade me to a R60 as I see alot more practicality in as to this R61. I am sorry if I do sound fussy, but I really want to see some practicality in the laptop I use rather than some stupid 3rd class Chinaman ideas. Really now I think that the shift from IBM to Lenevo is the shift from American intellect to Chinese cost cutting insensible ideas.
I think the fall of IBM/Lenevo is here....

You’re right. There’s a lot less smarts going into ThinkPad design/quality these days. IBM produced notebooks of a higher quality in comparison to Lenovo, but, remember, IBM sold this division because they couldn’t stay competitive/produce the profits they wanted with a higher-end notebook. Even then though, with all its drawbacks, I still consider my ThinkPad to be one of the better notebooks out there.

Do you just want a horde of approval to your complaint...you can take it apart and look at it if you want. But what can you really do? Live with it or just don't use it.

you sound more uninformed than fussy. :p   legend hired almost all of the IBM PC division employees when they bought the PC division, including both the american design team and yamato design team in japan.

the designers who create lenovo thinkpads are the same ones who created IBM thinkpads.   they are also the same designers who created the R60 and R61.   if you need confirmation of this, flip your machine over and you'll see a lenovo logo on the information decal. ;)
