i read about ctbear's thread on the same problem.
Without being verbose I just wandered if anyone else has experienced the 3 beeps and blank screen problem.
Also any update on whether Nvidia has owned up to this issue?

Nvidia did own up to the issue, but they didn't pay enough to resolve the issue, the only paid what is equivalent of the GPU and little bit more, while the manufacturer have to responsible for the entire motherboard, cost of freight/handling, cost of repair and faces consumer backlash. So many laptop manufacturers are keeping it quite.
So if i am you either sell the T61p or get it fixed under warranty, apparently you can extend the warranty on the laptop even after it expires for more than one month, but it does cost slightly more for the warranty fee, but no where near as much as the full motherboard repair bill. -

I'm pretty sure that if you keep the GPU cool enough it won't fail for a long time. If i knew that every T61p's GPU will fail within 2 years indeffinitely then i wouldn't be posting as much as i am about keeping my soon to arrive T61p cool, would I?

the only game i play on my laptop is counterstrike 1.6 which is neither cpu/gpu intensive.
I also have a cooling pad on the bottom.
I have also checked the internal conections and reseated my RAM chip so... -

according to some sites ive read, it claims that all the G84 and G86 were defective

Interesting, maybe you are right, hum another reason i will be devolving all my nvidia GPU equipped Thinkpads. T61, R61 and the T61p will have to wrapped up, and stored.

did i mention that i admire that t43? My dad had one of those, and I loved it
-
yes.. the T43 is pretty good, but my friend put next to the fire place, and it melted half of the machine other than the magnesium case top, the cd drive bezel has also melted, and hdd died of a heat stroke.
So i am slowly repairing it with parts i find at various places, it is half rebuilt, just need the case bottom. -

Stewie Griffin, it sounds like you long for the day when ThinkPads were a little better built and had the perfect balance of performance and size. I have a T43 too, running Windows 7 RC (7100) very fluidly, Pentium M 2.0GHz, 80GB 5400RPM, 1.5GB DDR2 RAM, X300 SE GPU, hell i had the CPU at lowest state (800MHz) and it still felt smooth as a quad core running XP, the graphics run very fluidly with a borderline outdated computer.
Edit:you can pick them up on eBay for next to nothing around 300-400 bucks in good condition with the same specs as mine, they are much more useful, and as cheap as netbooks but better. -
Can you post some picture of it? Love to see what it looks like. -
I will post the picture of the parts i had left for your viewing pleasures. And my T61 and mine X60..... which also heavily damaged... -
