I dont think the scorching sun will kill the ants, try something else

you can probably just seal off your laptop and not use it for a couple days and starve them all to death and then empty them out

Maybe keep it in a safe place when your not using it, i dont think an ant would enter a laptop if its running, it'll be too hot. And yeh you could seal it for a bit and then open it up and clean all out the compartments carefully.

i did not spill anything on my notebook, router and ac adapter :( . they went for my ac adapter first then my thinkpad and finally my router. the ac adapter died first. i threw the router in sun and they seemed to gone for now. i am afraid of throwing my laptop in sun, thats why this thread, although i kept it in mild sun for a half n hour without battery.

i don't have any spare adapter and battery is discharged.i cant keep it running. i am afraid if i keep it somewhere safe, the ants will eat everything

If it's your house, seriously, invest in Orkin. I had a serious ant problem at my previous house, and I saw a few crawl into my computer, and I never saw them crawl back out. They could probably be dangerous to the delicate components inside, I'm not sure.

Are you in texas per chance...some foreign ants got brought over to Texas via a ship. They like eating electronics. It was a huge issue for a couple days in the city they were in. I believe they mainly used steam...but I wouldn't exactly do that with my laptop.

If the ants really like your Thinkpad it's already coverd in pheromones which will attract other ants. Put the Thinkpad in a plastic bag, seal it, wait, remove the dead ants. More important: Get rid of the source and clean the house with bleach cleaner (will kill the pheromones).

Wow, that's a remarkable problem to have. How about opening the laptop up and using a can of air to blast them out?

I have a good idea. Open your Thinkpad, use peanut butter to attract the ants out. Once the ants are out step on them a few times to show them whose boss then close your Thinkpad. Call Lenovo and send your laptop into the repair shop to get checked up on just to see if everything is functioning.

After this, you should have an ant-free Laptop!

thanks guys for the tips. first i put it in sun minus battery for a hour. i paid some hospital guy to put the notebook in fumigation for a hour then i took it apart, removed all the dead ants. i got a new power adapter, plugged it in and everything seems to be working fine. my eyes burnt when i opened up my laptop

i dont know how to get rid of ant pheromones. maybe the fumigation will have an effect on those pheromones. i got some kind of powder from the local store, sprayed the whole place and left it alone for a few hours. end results, humans 1, ants 1 :D

Honestly. I would punish your laptop for even letting ants in. My bet is that your laptop wanted to stop working because it hates itself. I would give your laptop a good spanking and wash it's mouth out with soap.

As for the ants, well.. I would honestly.. just step on them and kill them. They have no right to give your laptop any harm!
