    I own an IBM X40 with a 4200 rpm 40 gig harddrive.

Is there any 5400 or 7200 rpm harddrive compatible with this ntoebook?

Anybody out there have experience with this?

Nope. The x40s use a 1.8" hard drive which only come in 4200RPM speed.

You'd have to get an external hard drive to get to those speeds, as zazonz says there's no 1.8" drive that spins above 4200 RPM. With an external USB drive you could load the OS on there and force the X40 to boot from it (hold in the Access IBM button on startup to configure your boot sequence prioritization to force a boot from an external drive) to achieve a faster default hard drive. it'd be a pain to rely on an external drive all the time though. it's just one of those limitations of an ultraportable really.
