Take a look at this thread.

The T400 has some issues with Thinklight placement at first, but it seems to have been resolved. Also, the keyboard had some flex when the T400 was first released, but around Christmas time, Lenovo switched back to the T61 keyboards that had no flex, so that's resolved as well.

    Hello,

I've been using a T400 for University for about a month now. Out of all the notebooks I've used throughout my studies, the T400 is 1st in my list.

I do have a few minor complaints:

    1. The keyboard that came in my T400 was one of those flexible ones with a thinner, more perforated base, significantly degrading the overall typing experience. However, Lenovo are offering to replace the keyboards in affected T400 notebooks free of charge (which I should be receiving soon), and they have since changed all their production T400/T500 keyboards to better ones (used in the previous T61 notebooks) beginning of 2009, so this should no longer be of concern.

    2. Some areas of plastic feel somewhat flimsy and weak. Notably, the plastic of the display bezel (which is noticeably thin on the right side), and the plastic palm rest which flexes a bit on the left and right side. However, these aren't major issues, and don't detract from the overall quality of the T400.

    3. The thinklight, in my opinion, is more of a blindlight. While a keyboard light isn't an important feature, or arguably an overly functional feature, the thinklight isn't very well positioned - it's angled slightly more to the left of the keyboard, and is blinding to the eyes.

Apart from these minor issues, I am very happy with my T400.
