has anybody here managed to buy an x201 for $700 or less?
I don't care if it was used or not. I am just deciding if there are some good deals around in that price range. I had found this x201 on craigslist with 3 years warranty for $700 but I was out of town, but haven't found anything else again.

I see Lenovo coupons are usually 15% max so that is still far away from 700.
How about coupons for the outlet?

It seems that for now the used market for the x201 is almost non existent.
I am almost set on the x201 because there's isn't really any good alternative with a matte screen, price range, power and weight. x200 at the outlet cost just as much and I don't want to buy a used one with no warranty off ebay.

    what are your experiences?
    thanks

Unfortunately, the X200 sale for $600-650 just ended, it was up for like a week or so.

Otherwise, maybe something on e-Bay pops out.

you would be hard pressed to find a X201 at this price range, unless you get one of the ULV CPU, which makes them slower than a X200 with P8400 CPU.

Cheapest I found on Google Product Search is > $800. Only way I see you getting one for $700 is on ebay, in which case consider looking for 12" HP 2540P systems as well.

If don't mind 13", there's Dell E4310 i5-540M units for $535 at the Dell Outlet after applying their 25% off voucher. Has an optical drive and 1366x768 matte LCD. Is bigger and heavier though. A bargain.

I found an X200 (4 in stock) at futurepowerpc.com with 3 year warranty for $680 before shipping and/or tax. That's like only $50 more than the $630 ones on ebay recently.

The cheapest x201i I could find was through pricegrabber.com for about $813 + $76 tax. Your only other option would be to camp the Lenovo outlet. Yesterday morning I found a refurbished x201 for $689. Or was it $589? Either way it was a ridiculous price for what you get: Ultranav, 4GB ram, Intel Advanced 6250 + WiMax, Bluetooth, 9-cell battery...

If I had an extra $600 from selling my 1830T or if I weren't cosigning for a house right now I'd take the plunge this instant.

    wow, that's incredible!

but anyways now I am considering the e4310. but I just left Dell with the e6400 and its heating problems. any competitors to the e4310 in terms of price, weight and power? I am looking at the acer 3820 but it just comes with a 1 year warranty and I really want a matte screen because my eyes dont get less tired.

Acer? i think you should pass. Get the E4310 instead... while it is not as good as the X30x, but it is definitely a huge step up from anything with an Acer badge on it...

I bought my X200 last October on eBay for $800 including the dock ($150-$200 value). It has a three-year on-site warranty and works perfectly. So yeah, there are deals out there.

Not an x201 either, but I got my x200t for exactly $700 a couple months ago. It too was pretty much mint with the better part of a 3-year warranty remaining.

There's a new coupon code out today for the X201 for 15% off online at Lenovo.com, use coupon USPX201 at checkout, that gets the X201i price down to $849 from $999. Still not below $700 of course. Maybe you could bum $150 off of a rich friend or relative to make up that gap though :D

Good catch. 15% off coupon comes and goes every once in a while. The problem is also how sales tax scales with the total price, so it bumps the price up for what $15 extra than it would if it was $700, add to that 6 cell battery for $20... and it can easily build up to over $900, with final price being in $1k range.

it just seems to me that if you add to the i3 option the camera, the wifi card, and the 5-1 card reader.

the camera is an extra $30, the network card is $20 and the 5-1 is $10, which i dont care about.

if I add these options to the i3 it gets up to $660.

do i need the trackpad? I don't know.

    Wow, great deals!
I guess if you never had laptop without trackpad then having one with both trackpoint and trackpad would be smarter choice.

i found this guy on craigslist, I have no clue how he gets these deals. could it be like an employer or contractor discount?

I think I upset him because I tried to get a further discount. But his pricing didn't make any sense. He would sell me an i5 machine for the same price of an i3 machine. So I think he could have come down more on the i3 machine.

You also have to factor in the lack of OS and only 1GB of ram. A windows license could cost $80 and 2GB of ram $40. and in the end it's not a great deal anymore.

Are they supposed to be new or scratch and dent? Big difference in how good the deal could be.

they are new. He can place an order with whatever I want with it. So I don't really think it's stolen. He must be a contractor I think.

Even so, don't they have a limit of orders? I'm not saying 5 or less.. but having 20+ orders would be really suspicious. Unless it's through a company something.. that can order from Lenovo with some kind of discount.
