I am still debating between ordering a X301 and a W500. I know they are completely different laptops for completely different tasks. This is my concern. This will be my first daily use laptop. I do a lot of CAD work, but I have powerful desktop workstations available to me for that.
If I do choose the W500 it is because of the power OpenGL graphics card which is very good for my CAD use. I also like the DDR3 memory and hybrid graphics.
If I don't order it, it will likely be because of the lack of a nice LED screen and no 25W processor. Also because I decide I would rather have a more mobile laptop than a powerhouse.
I think I am leaning towards the X300 / X301 right now. -
I did just today.
Reason(s):
It is more powerful than the one I'm using right now which is a mobile workstation T61p with 14.1" standard screen(SXGA+) that I like a lot. -
I tried to order a T61p because I wanted the discrete graphics card. Lenovo was slashing prices like crazy. Had to cancel one order because I goofed (lucky wasn't shipped so no restocking). Reordered August 2 (?) and... never showed up. Lenovo eventually canceled it and to make amends offered the W500 at the same incredible price of the T61p. Where things didn't exactly match up, the rep in Canada favored me (ie like the N wireless card, giving me the vastly superior 5300 over the flaky 5100, though I subsequently learned that besides power consumption the Thinkpad g cards seem to be prefered).
I thought switchable graphics were a joke or something I didn't need. Boy was I wrong. 7 hours of battery life on integrated with the nine cell battery. I frankly would have prefered the T500, but that's only because of the graphics card. I don't need the OpenGl stuff. Nonetheless, this thing is a champ. And looking at it this way, this is a better overall laptop than the t61p.
anyone ordered W500 or going to order one yet?
