let say you were and got into bed with a woman from a rival company, will she be able to get access into your thinkpad by using your finger on the fingerscan while you're sleeping like a baby.

lol definitely something I don't have to worry about. What is 007 like in real life?

On a serious note, if you're a deep sleeper I suppose it would work. Depends on the person..

Haha oh wow, well I suppose it's plausible. Hmm I suppose you could prevent this by using a toe instead of a finger? Yes, it may look odd logging in, but who would think of such a odd way of securing a laptop. Haha

well i am on a market for a x200 tablet, i heard thinkpad have very good security protection, and i do not want women i meet (or anyone) to have access to my pc. and when i am drunk, i would have no clue of my environment and i need the laptop to be able to protect itself, and if all it takes is my finger when im pissed, then....

In that case I would recommend you also use a BIOS and/or HDD password (both supported on ThinkPads) or a full disk encryption program like Truecrypt (free and very good) with a power on passphrase.

A good security system is always based on two things. Something you know (e.g. a password) and something you have (e.g. a finger of ID card). The main advantage of a fingerprint reader (and the reason I have one on my x200 Tablet) is that gives you decent security while still making it easy to resume from sleep (especially when in slate mjode and a keyboard isn't available).

    yes.

them people can do that without you being asleap by getting your fingerprinf off of something that you touched already.

or even worst, they can beat you up untill you gladly provide them the password

    - hope none of those above happen to you though

But that fingerprint would be reversed (ridges would be valleys, valleys would be ridges), eh?

If this is a big issue for you, then you'd do better to use such a complex password that it'd be difficult to remember it when drunk. Even that's pretty iffy. Good security depends on self-control; it's difficult to have the former when the latter is missing.

As people have already said, don't just use a fingerprint, combine it with a password. If you're knocked out, she wont be able to get past the password unless she guesses it, which if you're smart, she wont be able to. If you're wasted, odds are you wont be able to put the password in properly anyway.

As a side note, perhaps you shouldn't be in bed with someone from a rival company in the first place. Just a thought. ;)
