probably not most of you but some of you im sure can appreciated an armored laptop per say. I used toughbooks before in the desert but this time around may be going another route. Dell seems to be again stepping up their armored line with this little beauty. Im not a huge fan of Dell but will need a daily workhorse for my ventures again in Iraq. I may be getting me a Dell this shot around. I wish Lenovo would build something of this sort to take with. Any thoughts?

Why do you not want a Toughbook? I can't say I've used one but they seem to be the market standard. I wouldn't think there would be enough demand to justify Lenovo entering the market.

they are not too bad. the thin and light model is really not all that tough. the larger cf-51 is mostly what i used and had a poor screen even though it was touchscreen. they are not too bad but could really use a hardware refresh.

true, keyboards, fans, and hard drives get it worse than anything. the crazy part was that dell would deliver my parts within 3 days in the middle of the desert by DHL. yellow truck and all. dell enterprise support is great because as long as you are a tier2 or higher tech, they send you everything no questions asked along with packaging for return parts.

I had a buddy who worked in Iraq training US soldiers on Medical software of somesort. Of all the Dells, Toughbooks, and Thinkpads that went with them, within 6 months everything but the Thinkpads had died. The T42s and T60s that they had were still going when he left about 9 months ago. He said the Toughbooks and Dells just randomly died, while the Thinkpads kept going. I'm not sure what to make of it, but that's what I've been told, firsthand, from someone who was responsible for the equipment.

i wish i could say the same. i spent 14 months there as an army tech/lanman, they all died at one point. the thinkpads did have some problems and unfortunately they never left the ac. mostly optical and hard drive failures. all T42's.
