For some reason, I attached external speakers and the audio output isn't changed. In addition, hdmi output doesn't work, how come? I have the latest drivers for both, but I don't know what's up with that?

I get the regular options normally, but when I choose duplicate, nothing appears on the tv/external monitor. But works normally with vga output.

Yeah, I have a converter I bought from Aamzon. I not sure, it was working with win7...

    So it's not a driver/win 8 issue?

Well, I can't be sure. I no longer have a T420. I'll see if I can remember to run a couple of tests with my W510 tomorrow. You're just trying to get audio and video across the link to a decent HDTV, correct?

Do you have discrete Nvidia graphics or Intel integrated? Are you using Lenovo's graphics package or the latest drivers from either Nvidia/Intel for your machine? If you right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and choose Playback Devices, do you see something there about HDMI audio out?

    sorry about that, man.
I have intel. I see only Conexant Smart Audio HD. I've installed Intel's latest driver. I tried lenovo's driver but same thing.
