I connected my t61 to my hdtv using a VGA cable, i get a great video signal but I'm not sure how to connect audio. I bought a stereo to RCA cable so that I can connect it to the tv but how do I get the audio and video signal to work together on the same input #? Is the tv's VGA in supposed to have its own set of RCA plugs for audio? any help would be great I've been trying to figure this out for over an hour now

ya thanks guys I just found an online manual for the tv and saw that the VGA video requires stereo audio input but I already bought a stereo to RCA cable (which I can't return). If I were to use DVI instead I could use the RCA cable I have for audio. Do you think a VGA to DVI cable would work in connecting the laptop to the tv? or would I need some sort of adapter?

I looked up the manual for your tv and it seems like all you need is a standard male to male 3.5mm cable for the audio. I'm sure you can get it at radio shack for less than 5 bucks. You can probably get it at your local dollar store as well.

i wouldnt mess with a vga to dvi adapter in this case since its a very simple fix.

VGA to DVI requires a video processor to convert the analog signal to a digital one. The DVI to VGA is a simple adapter that will reconfigure the pins since the DVI output has a built in analog signal carrier.
