    This is what mine looks like in Windows 7; does yours look different? Mine just looks like three manila file folders to me.

    Iucounu is running "Classic" theme on Windows 7, Damadobling would you mind elaborating which bubble icons you're referring to? If you meant the chunky taskbar that is not to your liking then you can always use smaller icons to make it similar to the Vista style. This is what my desktop looks like in Windows 7:

    Ah, right click the taskbar, click properties, and change the combine option from "Always combine" to "Combine only when full".

    Yep, that's pretty awful. Sorry for being a bit slow this morning-- didn't stop to remember that different themes would have different icons. {facepalm}

    kirayamaoto: i'm afraid i'm not making myself clear. windows explorer - the fire browser - shows up with that stupid 3 bubble icon. its not about combining or not combining icons.

    iucounu: this is not really a theme so much as the default windows.

    It's the default for the theme you're using, I guess. I am as Hearst said using Windows Classic theme, and my icon is very different.

    I went looking for ways to change the icon on an executable, but it doesn't seem possible without a third-party hack. As you will have already considered, changing the icon on shortcuts is possible but won't affect anything opened through the shortcut.

    Interestingly, if you launch Windows Explorer, then right-click the handle in the taskbar, then right-click on the "Windows Explorer" that pops up in the context menu, the old "Change Icon" button is avaiable. Unfortunately, it seems to do diddly.

    I opened up Firefox just now, and don't see that icon on any Windows 7 computer (in fact, I don't see that with any program). I have the latest version, too. Can you mouse over it and tell me what it is for?

    I checked my themes, and it's not in any of them either. In fact the icons seem to stay the same when I change themes. So much for my Windows 7 expertise. :)

    I figured out why I have the classic icon, though. It's because I'm using Classic Shell:

    I figured it out - it's because the shortcut Windows + E, which *should* be explorer.exe, goes to ThinkVantage tools or something. so I changed the thinkvantage icon and presto i have the explorer icon
