    sigh:

still says estimated ship date is nov. 28th, but yesterday the status was "shipping in 2 weeks" so I assume the above is bad news, not good.

I am tempted to cancel and just order a frickin' Dell.

My estimated ship date is 12/6/05, and it still says "shipping in 2 weeks."
    Mine went from "back-ordered" -> "2-4 weeks" -> "2 weeks."
    I hope mine doesn't go back-ordered again.....
I might just cancel my order then...

Let's not lose our head just yet. :)

My T43 was ordered Nov. 10, 2005, and was given a status of "backordered," with a ship date of 1/5/06. Then, all of a sudden, I was notified that it shipped on Nov. 18 from Hong Kong. Now the tracking says it is in transit.

You do not want a Dell anyway. My son's Dell 8100 is 3.5 years old, and four keys are not working. Dell says that model is no longer supported. He ordered a refurbished keyboard from another source. Also, you're gonna like that TP pointing stick.

My guess is that you'll soon be pleasantly surprised with a new ship date.

My z60m went from backordered to shipping 2-4 weeks this weekend. Estimated ship date is still the same though at Dec 19 :(

I'm beginning to wonder whether or not it might be faster just to wait for them (z60's that is) to come into stock at one of the retailers that is planning on carrying them ... I know that euclid and buy.com are both showing them as orderable but temporarily sold out ... although that could result in waiting for quite some time as well ...

my problem is that the config i want isnt one likel to be avail on retail. So its either wait for this model, or buy something else.

I need to rethink my usage model. We do have an aging D800 at home which is about on par with the T40 I presently use. And there are such good deals on 700m right now, and there are advantages to such a small notebook that the T42 woudnt have. Do I really need to run MATLAB tht often while on the road? Its hard to say.

lets see what the Lenovo rep says today. he promised hed email me with details.

Freely configurable special offer (13th anniversity) was too good of a deal.

I didn't really need EVDO, 2x DVD burner, 7-cell batt., and 100GB HDD.
    I just wanted a titanium cover, 4-cell batt, 60GB HDD, and a CD-RW. (+ free printer)

I'm going to wait some more.....

Which model exactly did you order. If mine moves to a january ship date I will crap a brick and send off a few nastey letters to IBM corp. They need to mention this stuff on the website. "2-4 weeks" does in NO WAY describe 2 months.

There's your problem right there. You need to order from Lenovo. ;)

Seriously, though, I agree. Either give an accurate ship date or say TBD. My order status has changed 3 times in 6 days.

 WOW.... at the rate they are going you are probably looking at 3 months. I would call IBM and see if you can work your way up the chain and *****.

EDIT: Mine is still the same status and est ship date, but it looks like they start to play aorund with it once you get within 4-5 days of it. Had similar things happen last xmas season, and if I get another 2-3 month projected ship date it looks like I will take my business elsewhere.

I choose the option to ship items separately, which I found out after the order was submitted...

None of the items have shipped...
    Not even the free printer...
Est. ship date for my HDD is showing NEXT YEAR!!!

My web development project has been on hold for more than a month now...

I might as well cancel the order an get a toshiba or dell....

I'm not sure if this is a good question to ask here, but...
Any suggestions for a decent laptop?

14~" widescreen would be good (15.4" is too big for me)
    1280x768+
High performance (GPU doesn't matter; not a gamer)
Will run MS SQL Server, MS Visual Studio, Dreamweaver, Photoshop at the same time.
    Under 6lb.
    Under $2000
    "FAST SHIPPING"

Hm.. I guess a z60t made by a different manufacture...

I guess you're set on widescreen right? if not the prices on the 14" T42 at Lenovo.com (you can order from places like PCConnection.com and others) are really good right now if you haven't completely given up on Lenovo yet. The Fujitsu S7000, Dell Latitude D610, Asus W3V and Toshiba Tecra M3 are all worth a look...there's others.

Just got off the phone with an IBM rep, and was told I should probably expect my order to be shipped early to mid JANUARY. His excuse was UPS can't guarantee shipping dates during the christmas season, but even a retard knows that doesn't mean all of a sudden UPS ground take a MONTH to ship something. He said IBM has shipped out a couple of the Z series to customers (doubtful), and won't start shipping anything until late december to january.

Now I am stuck with the choice of waiting another month for a laptop, or going to another company. What if my z60m arrives defective? Does that mean I now have to wait another 2 months to recieve a replacement? Who in thier right mind would want to buy anything from IBM right now if they can't even provide reasonable shipping dates.

They still lie on the website about "2-4 weeks**". Maybe those asterisks mean weeks could mean months or years

    Moonri you are not alone!

I felt I needed more options than the office depot unit had, so I ordered from Lenovo, and was shown 2-4weeks delivery.

Well today it showed a 23rd Dec shipping date!!

    C'est la vie.

I got my T42 finally yesterday - have only hada time to crack teh box and peek at it inside. Will take it for a spin later this weekend prolly.

I think that teh Z series have too muc buzz. The main bottleneck in shipping is from Hong Kong, remember these machines are built in China. Also my T42 was held by teh FDAm then went through customs, and had to wait for a "special release". all this becase of teh foreign origin. The Lenvo rep says that tehse delays are built into the delay time for estimated ship date, so its not bogus.

I think that getting a zseries is like any other hot commodity (ipod nano, xbox360, etc) that is announced to great fanfare. Youre not going to get your machine right away. Consider it a premium for the cool. If you need a thinkpad now, get a T42 or T43 from teh fantastic deals on the site. Upgrade teh ram and the hard drive yoruself from newegg, and buy off teh shelf from the deal pages. those machines are in stock and will ship right away.

if you need a widescreen, then avoiid lenovo fornow because you and everyone else wants the same thing. Or be willing to wait. Thats really the bottom line.

Canceled my order, and no idea what I even want to buy anymore. The HP I want doesn't have discount unless it is under state contract, and the dell that is comparable has the audio issue. Something always has to go wrong for me and I never get the laptop I want :(

I was right =) I decided on IBM and ordered the z60m last month, But I cancelled my order when they told me I have to wait 5 weeks. I thought 5 weeks was an underestimate anyway. So I ordered the T43 with EPP and I've been using it happily for 2 weeks now.

Seems like the Z60m's aren't going to be available in the UK until the New Year so I've had to cancel my order

Was told it is something to do with the graphics card availability at point of manufacture... which means I now either go for Sony S5XP or Asus W1VC

So my z60t order still shows a ship date of 12/16 and status of "less than 2 weeks". I can expect to see the date pushed out, but they'll leave me hanging until 5 days before ship?? Talk about failing to set expectations correctly. Hey, maybe it'll ship early now that everyone else is canceling :)

As for the Sony S580, that doesn't sound comparable due to sony's poor track record with linux support (closed source and windows only drivers).

I just called about an hour ago...
They said they "expect" to ship mine late December or early January.
    I canceled my order.
    That was quick.

    I'm getting the Asus w3v.
Hoping to get it by this Saturday.

The experience being discussed on this thread with respect to Lenovo is disturbing. Does this mean that the doomsayers about the IBM/Lenovo deal were actually right on? Did IBM have these sorts of delivery issues before the deal and before the Z60's? Maybe Lenovo is stretching itself too far by delivering a new model and opening up sales though retail shops at the same time? It could be they're spending way too much time producing models for the stores than for people ordering customized rigs. All just thoughts and concerns... :p Hopefully the new year brings in better delivery times.

Yes, yes they did. When the T43 was first announced (April, I think?), even before Lenovo took control, there were terrible supply issues. I read horror stories about wait times of well over a month. I don't think that this is a problem that's just appeared with Lenovo.

The rep said if I try to get to the order status page, it will show "invalid order num."
For me, it doesn't even let me login now.
I guess my account's been deleted also.
Since they didn't charge my credit card yet, I won't worry about it anymore.

You can give them a call to verify.
They are very slow on responding to emails.

    Hi,

I ordered my Z60t in Nov'05 from IBM - they kept giving me the run around - promising Christmas delivery, then "New year".
Finally in the New year they promised a ship date of Jan 29th.

I cancelled my order and bought one form Euclid whose wait list I was on.

Got mine last week. it is GREAT !!

Does anyone know of a lightweight laptop case for this?
    ( Z60t 13.1" X 1.22" X 9.0")
I wanted the Targus 14" Ultra Lite (2.0 lbs only), but it specs 12.125" length - an inch short.

    Thanks.

    KM

Waterfield ( www.sfbags.com) has a nice case for it. I liked it. Make sure you get a bigger size if you have an extended battery though.
