just received the x200s that I ordered from the outlet.

it's refurbished not scratch and dent.

there's marks (scratches) on the lid.

one of the usb port is block by some kind of ribbon...

    but it's quite light.

once i got my x201 back from repair. I will upload some pictures.

I wonder what they put something over the usb port like that? Maybe scratches I could overlook, though....

I do think it is better built than the x201 that I have

like a ribbon. it ran over the usb port and the pc card slot.

i don't see how i can remove it, without cutting it.

the mark on the lid is down to the metal...

how come I always had bad experience with my thinkpads

Oh ... that's not being scuffed that almost sounds like gouged!

Can you return it and get a replacement?

It's refurbished. They won't even send replacement for new ones!

    it's going back for sure.

But I love the lid. It's a LOT better than what they put on the x201 and x200.

it's a whole piece instead of the two pieces design they use on the regular ones.

    love the resolution as well.

well... i can't live with a blocked usb port...

OK, I've lost track. Did you order it from the scratch and dent sale? If so, were you expecting it not to be scratched or dented somehow?

The blocked USB port does sound odd, but it is an outlet store after all.

it's 'refurbished', not 'scratch and dent'

    two different grades

    new
    redistributed
    refurbished
    scratched and dent

call the outlet line on monday and ask about it.   most likely they'll refer you to support where you can send the system in for repair.

if you prefer to return it then you'll also need to call the outlet line.

fwiw, "refurbished" doesn't guarantee systems are in 100% perfect cosmetic condition.   you're getting a discount to reflect the short warranty and potential cosmetic issues.   only broken or severely damaged chassis parts are replaced on refurbs.   while many refurbished systems come from the outlet looking new, there's no guarantee unless it's marked as 'new' or 'redistributed'.

the ribbon you mention sounds like a potential issue though.   that needs to be rectified.

the marks on the lid are not exactly bothering me.

the view angle on this 1440x900 seems to be worse than the 1280x800 ones.

my x201 is in for repair now. when i get it back, i will take some comparison pictures.

    stay tuned.

I mean does refurbished have a different warranty for cosmetics? Although that scratch on the top cover doesn't impede functionality, it shouldn't be there..

i have no idea where that ribbon came from...

the mark on the lid is pretty deep, down to the metal.

after using this laptop for a while, i think the res is too high. it's hard to see, especially with the poor viewing angle.

the ribbon is actually a piece of tape.   it must have found its way there before the palmrest was installed.   you could fix this yourself quite easily by removing the palmrest.

I wouldn't recommend fixing anything yourself. You paid for it, they have to fix it!
Just send it back. Besides, you never know what else could be wrong with this laptop when there are already clearly visible marks on the lid and a ribbon tape over the USB port.
