    Hi, everybody

I have a problem with the battery. I have been using my T61p for a year and a half and it can work on 6-cell battery only 15 minutes with the full brightness or a bit more with reduced. I often left computer plugged and switched off. Could it cause the battery running out of its capacity?
If so can, I repair in it any way or will have to buy a new one?

    All answers are appreciated
    Regards,
    Alex

If the battery is not keeping its charge you will have to buy another one. It is possible the cells went bad but since it has been a year and a half you don't have any recourse via warranty.

I usually leave my computers on so the laptop is plugged in. However I set charge thresholds so the battery is not always charging again and again. If you are going to keep your computer plugged in a long time, I would keep the battery at about 40% and take it out. And just plug it in when needed. Just make sure to power cycle it through every month or so.

You can do that in the Thinkvantage Power Manager tool (right-click the battery icon in the taskbar). Go to the Battery tab and then click Battery Maintenance.

Even with clean installs, the one Thinkvantage app that I think is crucial in that scenario is the Power Manager. It is written specifically for your thinkpad and is able to squeeze as much power from that battery as possible. On top of that, you have features (such as setting the charge thresholds) only available within that app and on Thinkpads.
