I have a t500 and thinking of buying a spare battery. Which one is a better buy
9 Cell High Capacity Battery
or
6 cell li-ion batttery.
can I get this battery and not use it until my other one that I use with my laptop die?

You will be fine with your current battery (if it's new anyway).
I don't see why you would like to buy a spare battery and left it unused, remember, this kind of batteries are suceptible to degradation even if they're not in use, environmental factors like heat will decrease the lifespan of it.
If you need a second battery that you will use, I'd say go for it, if you don't need one right now, you can always buy one later. -
so which one is a better choice?

if you dont need it dont buy it. like buying an extra car batter for a new car and putting it in the trunk. makes no sense.
all kidding aside, would go for the lowest weight option. -
A battery will degrade over time - therefore, if you buy a "spare" battery now and do not use it, over time, it will lose full charge capacity regardless if whether or not you're using it.
I recommend that you buy a battery only when you need it. It's a waste of money to buy a spare battery that you will rarely - if ever - use.
Personally, I find the 9-cell to be a better buy (at least at laptop purchase time, when it is a $30 upgrade over the 6-cell). Not only do I last longer off the grid, but I also do not have to charge it up as much, further extending my battery's lifetime. All that, for a slight weight increase and a "handle" jutting out of the back is definitely worth it for me.
battery help choice please?
