    Hi,

I just got a SL410 and I'm noticing that the battery has started losing power even when I'm plugged in and doesn't charge up all the way. It only drops down about 1 or 2 percent but it's only been a few days, I'm going to try draining the battery and charging it up but I was wondering if it's just the software or the battery faulty

What is happening is the battery will naturally lose a bit of charge (very little capacity is lost over time) over time. Thinkpads are designed to not recharge automatically when the percentage dips a bit. Lithium Ion Batterys have a counter that is called charge cycles. It is thought that Lithium Ion batteries only hold a charge on average for 150-300 cycles. Since Thinkpads don't top off the battery everytime the percentage drops a bit it saves a charge cycle and extending the life of the battery.

That being said, you should check out some of the battery guides in this forum, just do a search.

That is a good call too, I suppose if it is the 65w adapter I've heard that the system will draw a bit from the battery when plugged in if the computer is doing something demanding.

Most notebook will only charge the battery when it`s charge level drop below 94% or lower, If it get to 90% or lower and it still will not charge you have a problem.

    Thanks for everyone's help

I do have a 65 watt charger. That must be why I get the slight dip. I drained it today and it seems to be charging fine.
