i have been doing research on labtops for 4 months now and i'm pretty sure that i'm going to go with a thinkpad T42 it was the thinkpad or the Toshiba Satellite M35. My questioin is where is the best place to get a thinkpad? i don't know really anywhere that they sell them besides IBM.com and is that the best place?

    thanks mirdock

    Hi mirdock,
If you want to give up the option of a 30day no questions return ( this includes being able to return for a dead pixel), then go with either www.newegg.com if they carry the model your looking for or www.mwave.com which has a bigger selection. Going with these guys can easily save you $200-$300. I've bought from both newegg and mwave and was very happy with both; no dead pixels and everything worked perfectly...I saved a bundle. If you want return it if there is a dead pixel or anything, then get it fro IBM or www.thinkpads.com. Bill over at thinkpads.com offers a 30 day return and dead pixel guarantee and his prices are better than IBM, but not as good as newegg or mwave.

I bought an IBM T42 2379dxu at techonweb.com and was satisfied with the service and product. I kept waiting for newegg to carry this model but they never did. At the time, techonweb and costcentral had a lower price than mwave. With it out of stock at costcentral I went with techonweb.

I bought another IBM T42 for my son who is in college when his Dell inspiron went belly up. I bought this one at newegg for $1630. It has a 15" XGA screen. My notebook is a 15" sxga+ and I really like it. Both laptops are dead pixel free (big relief). We both love our T42's.

NewEgg.com is good. Actually, Amazon.com has a limited stock of ThinkPads and I never hesitate to buy there either...their prices on laptops aren't as competitive as certain other categories they're in but the 30-day return deal applies there too.
