    Hello,
I have 6 cells and 9 cells battery for my W500 and i use 6 cells while plugged to power to avoid any power disconnection then losing work (not removing the battery) so if it dies on the long run and don't hold charge i will lose the 6 cells not the 9 cells

so the 9 cells have been laying next to me for the past 30-60 days and might be longer, whats the best way to keep it like this without dying ? keep it fully charged or empty it and store it?

    Thank you

I would recommend to empty it and store it in the freezer in a water tight bag

I hope you are being sarcastic...about 60% is normal and in a cool place.

i think ur mistaken, it says that when u are storing, u should keep it at 40% and stored in cool, dry place.

Storing in the freezer is a bad idea as it will damage the lithium ion material - storing in the refridgerator is fine however - but make sure you put in some silica gel sachets to ensure moisture is kept to an absolute minimum.

If you look at the link you posted it explicitly states refridgerator and not freezer.

First and foremost, I would set battery charge thresholds. Open power manager, switch to advanced view, go to the battery tab, and select battery maintenance. I generally use a start charging at 60% and stop at 95%, but your needs may be different. You should try and keep the 6 cell near the middle all the time (you only use it when plugged in, and middle battery life is best for long term life) with a start at 30% and stop at 70% threshold. For the 9 cell, I would recommend a stop at 95%, and start at the minimum charge you think you would need (e.g. 60% for a few hours, or 80% if you need a nearly charged battery at a moments notice).

As for storing an unused battery:

    • Drain (or charge) the battery to ≈40%.
    • Store it in a cool dry place.
    • A low humidity refrigerator with an airtight bag can work, but a cellar or other area <60° F will also work fine.
    • DO NOT FREEZE BATTERIES
    • When you want to use it again, allow it to recover to room temperature, and then charge it up to 100%.

Personally, I would only use a single battery and just use charge thresholds to maintain battery lifespan (mine is at 83% right now and idle due to the thresholds). However, because you have 2 batteries already, storing the 9 cell in a cool dry place for times when you really need that much life (e.g. a trans-continental plane ride) is a good idea.

What harm could be done if the battery is installed right out of the refrigerator when it's still very cold (which I usually do)? I thought it helps cool my laptop?

The biggest risk would be condensation as it warms. This could cause corrosion on the battery contacts.

Like jonlumpkin said, it's not good, and you should avoid doing that. However, I've done it a few times when I was in a rush, and had no negative consequences.

well i can advice you is get a dock and a separate adapter so you can have that 9 cell charged 100% all the time. and if you need a batter you can just swap out and put the laptop in your dock.
